Blaze Blog: August 2014: What I did on my summer vacation
Well, I was away on vacation last month, so we’re doubling up the winners this time around. July book winners are:
- Elaine G
- Alina D
And August winners are:
- Laurie G
Thanks to everyone who entered the draw! Look for Kathleen’s post in early September for your next chance to win!
Since we moved so recently, we decided to stick close to home for vacation this year. This was just fine with my mom, who wanted to come visit from Winnipeg and spend the week in Toronto being a tourist. Toronto’s a great city to live in, and I love having an excuse to show it off to visitors. You never go do the fun touristy things where you live unless you have a reason to, right?
First off, my mom and I are both huge (HUGE) Queen fans, so we timed my mom’s trip for the revival tour’s Toronto date . It was amazing to see Queen + Adam Lambert, who was filling the shoes of and paying homage to Freddie Mercury. I grew up loving this band, and I never thought I’d get to see them play live. We had pretty decent seats, too…
Over the course of the week, we took in a Jays game (Texas beat the pants off the Jays, sadly),
enjoyed a variety of Asian street foods at the annual Night Market (I think the fried quail eggs were my favourite),
went to the new Ripley’s aquarium, where we got up closer and personal with some sharks,
and enjoyed a very refined afternoon tea.
We also stopped in at Harlequin, because my mom wanted to see where I work 🙂 Needless to say, she didn’t leave emptyhanded….
What have you been up to this summer? Any memorable vacation moments you want to share?
