I Need A Hero

Posted by Candace Havens in Candace Havens, tags: Blaze, Candace Havens, Indiana Jones, Jason Bourne, Twilight
Hello! First off, let me say there’s absolutely no pressure in being the first author to post on our very sexy and beautiful Blaze Blog. I mean, I’m not going to let the fact that I’m one of the newest additions to the Blaze Babes intimidate me or anything. ::Smile::
I will tell you that I’m excited to be in such wonderful company. Many of my favorite authors are Blaze Babes, and it’s honestly like being a part of the coolest sorority on campus. The one where they look like perfectly respectable girls on the outside, but they know how to get down and dirty and have a really good time. Their writing is stellar, and they tell such incredible stories.
Since I am new to the gang, I’ll tell you that I come from the world of paranormal romance. The “Charmed & Dangerous series,” “The Demon King and I” and the upcoming July release “Dragons Prefer Blondes,” are some of my books. My new Blaze, which doesn’t have a title yet and comes out in February 2010, is a whole new world for me to explore. One with spies and intrigue, that I’m so excited about, it’s hard to sleep at night.
While writing it I actually fell for my hero, Jackson, in a big way. I told my husband that if Jackson showed up on my doorstep tomorrow, I was packing my bags. Seriously hot. I’m not kidding. I’ve loved the heroes in all my previous books, but I wasn’t in their heads like I was Jackson. I want to have his babies.
I want to know about your favorite heroes. Who sends your heart racing? They can be from film, television and books. What is it about them that makes you feel that way? Are you more of an Edward (Twilight) lover, an Indiana Jones type or Jason Bourne? Um, Mr. Darcy, anyone? I kind of adore all them for different reasons. So tell me. I really want to know.

Hi Candace — welcome to Blaze!
Personally, I am complete spy/intrigue freak. LOL Right now, my favorite hero is Michael Weston, from Burn Notice, and I have always loved Sayid on LOST more than the other characters on the show.
Very much looking forward to your book!
Sam
Hi Samantha:
I agree there is a very strong and sexy quality to Sayid. I’m actually partial to Sawyer! Just had to chime in
I love all kinds of heroes, but my favorite are the laid-back, no-fuss kind of guys. Off the top of my head, a few of my favorites from Blaze are Rennie in Alison’s Infatuation (perhaps my favorite Blaze evah!), Rick from Lori’s Unleashed, any of Rhonda’s heroes, Sam’s Rafe, Jill’s Joshua, and though he wasn’t all that “chilled”, I *heart* Sarah’s Leandro…to name just a few, because really, I don’t think I’ve ever met a Blaze hero I didn’t swoon over.
Congrats on the upcoming book and the “sorority initiation”, Candace.
Indiana has had my heart for a long time but I’ve always been a big fan of Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Just love the paranormal stuff – great blog post!
Hi Candace!
I enjoy your paranormal books, so I know I’ll enjoy your Harlequin Blaze books.
Hero. I’ve read sooo many good books lately, its hard to decide. But I’m more of an Indiana Jones type girl. I have to admit. Edward does nothing for me.
Good Mornin’ Candace!
I love paranormal romance, or paranormal anything actually:)… As far as my heroe’s, I love a gentleman. The one who will open the doors, pull out your chair, and signal for the waiter. I also like the guy who makes it clear he has eyes only for you…and then knows how to use it:)…A seductive guy who can put on the moves with class and style, discreetly. I think a guy who brushes your hand with his fingertips when you pass him a drink (or whatever) is setting the stage for foreplay in a most sensuous way. As Dolly Parton said in Steel Magnolia’s…that really melts my butter!:) But above all that, I like the guy to have values, and hold to them…because along with seduction, there has to be respect.
Congratulations on being the first on here!:) Your post and question were both excellent!
Lo
Hi Candace,
Congratulations on your sale to Blaze! Sweet! My favorite hero is one who overcomes the challenges faced even though they don’t want to. For me, it’s about character, stepping past their demons to do what’s right.
Diana
Hi Candy, excited to see you w/ Blaze!
Heroes, hmmm… lately I have been on a cowboy kick (at least for my own writing). HOWEVER, like Sam, Michael Weston…mmm-hmm, or even DiNozo on NCIS. I like spies or agent men. Maybe it’s the guns, dunno.
Hi, Candace!
Personally, I LOVE any type of superhero. Okay, specifically Wolverine but you know…HUGH JACKMAN, hello! I’m also a huge Indiana Jones fan. He’s a tough guy with a heart of gold. And that is so sexy.
As far as books go I love the alpha man. So big and strong and tough yet tender and sweet to the girl he loves.
Great post!
LOL about Michael Westin. When you read my Blaze you’re going to see just how much I love me some Michael Westin.
I’m checking out those Blazes! Oh, and Angel. Yummers. There was always that whole Spike or Angel argument, and I’m an Angel girl all the way!
Love your post. So you want to have his babies, huh? lol Too funny. I am in a tortured hero/bad boy mode right now. I think it started with Zsadist from JR Ward’s book, Lover Awakened. Zsadist was like no other hero I had read before.
I love your paranormals, so I can’t wait to read your Blaze books.
I would take Jason or Edward, or better, both of them lol. I’m looking forward to your new book.
Give me a cowboy any day of the week! I want a hero capable of taking care of me when I need it but understanding I’m a big girl who can stand on her own two feet. Currently I’m in love with Logan Creed from Linda Lael Miller’s Montana Creeds series. But there are other brothers to consider…
Hi Candy
I have to admit while strong alpha guys are fun reads – I really love those men that seem to be throwbacks to centuries long past – the old fashioned guys who live in a modern world but still value honor, loyalty, and women. The guys for whom a handshake is as binding as a ten page notarized contract and there’s nothing they won’t risk to save the lady!!
Could eat those guys up with a spoon!! lol.
I’m so glad to hear you’ve joined the Blaze authors. Jackson is a great sounding name for a hero. It brings all sorts of wonderful images to mind. I can hardly wait to read the story and find out for myself how delicious your hero is.
thanks for sharing him with us.
LIKE being part of the coolest sorority on campus? Honey, we ARE the coolest sorority on campus!
Oooh, Charmed and Dangerous…I’m such a fan of that series! I can’t wait to read your first Blaze!
I just blogged about heroes yesterday at Plotmonkeys…and my favorite, the Charmer. Like Richard Castle on the new show, Castle. Funniest part is, I don’t really write the “charmer” hero. I prefer to write Chiefs. Big, bossy men brought down to their knees by even bossier women. But I love me a great charming guy–one who is hot and knows how to use it!
I’ve never been much of a spy girl, but I love Captain Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly (or Nathan Fillion in anything) and the Winchester brothers from Supernatural. And I’m loving Victor on Dollhouse. I’d take Spike pver Angel anyday, so I guess the anti-hero with the smart mouth works for me. =)
I love your paranormals, Candy. Can’t wait to read the new Blaze.
You honestly expect me to pick? But there are so many kinds of great heros! Michael Weston is seriously an amazing character. My husband even likes him. Smart, funny and intense. And then there is the man who can admit his errors, like Darcy and Angel. Love those tall dark and silent guys. But I’m totally crushing on the new Bond. His intensity and loyalty are heartbreaking. Love his tortured past.
Congratulations on the new books. — Sherri Buerkle
I can’t wait to read your Blaze, Candy. I loved your CHARMED books.
My ideal hero is Atticus Finch–TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD.
Yummers!
Susan Shay
BLIND SIGHT–fifteen days to publication
Candy:
First of all, welcome to Blaze!! I love, love, love the Blaze line and I love your books, so I’m one happy camper!
And what a fun question about heroes. Have to agree with you guys – love Michael Westin. And I personally am hooked on “Castle” right now (and, of course…it has NOTHING to do with the wonderful Nathan Fillion…)
All time favorite book hero ever….that one’s easy. Matthew Farrell from Judith McNaught’s PARADISE, followed very closely by Roarke from JD Robb’s In Death series. I swear, if I even MET a man named Matthew Farrell I’d marry him on the spot.
Happy Blogging Day!
Addison
Hi Candace!
I’m with Julie. I just love charming heroes. Playboy types even. I don’t like alphas, can’t stand brooders, not into cowboys. But you give me a guy with a wicked smile and a glint in his eye as he seduces a woman with just a few words, and I’m all melty.
Like Hugh Jackman’s Eddie in Someone Like You. Oh, quiiiiivvvvverrrrr…
My top picks would be Hugh Jackman. I love his portrayal of Wolverine and also from Van Helsing. The Rock. I loved him in the Scorpion King. Also, the leader of the nomad warriors in The Mummy. I kind of have a tall, dark, and gorgeous trend going there.
Hey Candy,
There might be pressure leading off, but you handled it like you always do, with class and proficiency.
John Foxjohn

Hi Candy,
Love your Charmed & Dangerous series too. So excited you’re writing for Blaze! I’m with Dawn–give me a tortured hero any day, any time. I love a hero who finds healing love with the heroine and rises from the ashes to become whole.
Having said that, Jason Bourne and The Transporter ROCK!
Clive Owen in King Arthur. Actually, Clive Owen in anything, but he made a great Arthur.
Ooo! Daniel Day-Lewis as Hawkeye in Last of the Mohicans. “I will find you!”
Oh, and Viggo Mortensen in Lord of the Rings.
There are more. I’ll be back. (Hey! Arnold Schwarzenegger – Terminator)
Julie, I stand corrected on the “like”.
You guys I forgot about those Winchester boys from Supernatural. And OMG, yes to Castle. It’s my new favorite show. Though, I must admit I love Nathan Fillion in anything he does from Firefly to Dr. Horrible to play a Sheriff who kills weird aliens. He’s the man!
And the charmers… I have one of those in my send Charmed book. The rock star Zane. He is a smooth one.
Hi Candace
So now that you’ve got my morning all haywire thinking about heroes I realize that anything rugged transcends just fine for me. Whew — my husband is in trouble. I might just have to make a lunch date
Love your stuff and thanks for priming the pump on this new blog!
Nancy
Leslie, how could I forget Hugh Jackman in . . . er, anything?
Candace, wonderful about your publication with Blaze! Wahoo! Oh dear, what did your hubby say when you said you were packing your bags for your hero; don’t you love it when you fall in love with your protag like this. Can’t wait to ready your book, 2010 seems a long way away!
Hi Candy! Can’t wait to read your upcoming Blaze.
I like all types of heroes. There’s got to be something cerebral about them, whether alphies, betas, charmers…whatever, combined with gorgeous faces and bodies, of course.
Sigh, Clive and Hugh. And oh, yes, I love me some Viggo. (All of them nice guys to interview by the way.) Did you see Viggo in Eastern Promises. That naked sauna scene will be forever etched in my brain in a very good way.
Hi Candance,
Congratulations on your recent sale to Blaze. I love the Blaze line. :-). My favorite type of hero would be someone like Jason Bourne – understated, smart, gifted – cool.
Let’s see…my favorite hero at the moment is Superman. Me and my sister have been super obsessed with him (no pun intended). Also, I really love Luke Wilson. There is just something about him that I totally love!!
My favorite books to read are spy/paranormal/love books. If that makes any sense..lol.
p.s.
Can’t wait to see another book from you!! Your books have everything I love to read!!
ohhh…I love those misunderstood alpha males..couldn’t live with them, but still love them. And I agree with so many of you that Hugh Jackman is..well, the Man!
Congrats on the upcoming Blaze release!
Hey Candy-
It’s those Brits for me. Clive Owen, Daniel Craig and my newest obsession, Rupert Penry-Jones. He was Captain Wentworth in the newest version of Persuasion, but he’s been on UK TV as a spy in MI5-Spooks. All yummy and angsty – my favorite!
Best of luck as a new Blaze author.
Elizabeth! I’m with you. I LOVE the new version of Persuasion!!
Other Brits–ok, Aussies I love are Eric Bana, Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, and one Welsh guy, Christian Bale. Altho he’s been naughty lately. But I guess I like Bad Boys and Lost Souls the most, ooh, those tortured Heroes…
My current favorite hottie is Jake Porter (who looks remarkably like Hugh Jackman) from the Sophie Metropolis series by Tori Carrington. I rather like the tall, handsome, mysterious, charming… oh heck, I like ‘em all, if the story’s good.
Congratulations, Candace, on this new venture.
Too many heros….so little time.
Write a great character in a book or for the screen and I’m a goner.
Congratulations on your sale to Blaze, Candy!!
Hi, Candace! I’m a fan of the “tall, dark and mysterious” sort of hero. Indiana Jones was great at that in the first movie. I like intelligent too, and being a “thinker” that knows obscure things. Sort of Indy/MacGuyver.
Hi, Candace! I love your books. I must confess I’m not a blogger as I get hopelessly lost on what to do!!!
Take care & have FUN!!!
I guess I’m all over the place. I like all kinds of heroes – the rugged can do guy with a heart of gold, and brains too (aka Indiana Jones), the charmer/swashbuckler (aka Jack Sparrow), the cool guy, who’ll defend his family to the death, but has been too hurt to find love himself (aka Dean Winchester), the guy with a great sense of humor, and laid back air, but really cares about other people (aka Magnum P.I.). I could go on and on…
So glad you’re writing for Blaze! That’s great news!
I’m with Samantha and you Candy. I love me some Michael Westin. And you know how much I loved Jackson when you let me be your beta reader.
I am so excited about this story that I can’t wait until I get to feel the official book in my fingers.
Glad to see you here Candace. You’ll add a lot to this site.
So many heroes, so little space. Love Indy, Michael Weston, smart men with a good sense of humor. I don’t see the fascination for Edward at all. He’s a control freak who doesn’t love Bella for herself. Jacob loves Bella for herself, and I hate how he turns out in the last book.
Bella’s a strong girl until she’s around Edward, then she goes all gooey. Not my kind of hero at all. But enough about Twilight. This is about Candace’s new book. I like a man who empowers the person he’s with – and I’m looking forward to meeting Jackson.
Candace, great post! I’m still a sucker for Roarke. Nora could write 100 In Death novels and I’d still go all mushy over him.
Hi Candy,
Love your workshops and your paranormals, and just had to come say “Hi!”
Congrats on your new adventure. I’m reading Demon King and I and am so looking forward to Dragons Prefer Blondes.
My most favorite Hero, the one I’d not even think twice about running off with…Roarke. Sigh.
It always comes back to Roarke from Robb’s In Death series. I also love some abd boys and Swayer from Lost always gets my heart thumping.
Hi Candace
Ahh.. Glorious heroes. Can’t live without them. Almost any kind will melt my heart, but I do love those strong, simple ones. Deep in their hearts is a romantic while they are strong, proud on the outside. Even the ones with a bit of mystery around the edges and that gleam in their eyes.
I love the spy with a sense of honor, ie Jason Bourne and now Daniel Craig as James Bond – (I love those riveting pale blue eyes of his!!). I even go for those with a bit of brains – Indiana Jones and MacGuyver. Then there are always those with the heart of romantic with protection like Edward Cullen and many others.
Looking forward to reading your new book.
Nicole B
aka Nicole Dennis
Hey Candace!!! I have to say I think I’m a Jason Bourne kinda gal. Quiet but VERY competent *grin*
Other faves include the dude from Life, add me to the Michael Westin list also!!! Burn Notice rocks!
I’m definitely a “shades of grey” girl!!!
Hi Candace–I love the new James Bond, but for pure sexy looks I love Eddie Cibrian, who played the hero in Nora Roberts’s lifetime movie Northern Lights. Tall, dark, with dimples!
Hi Candy,
Can’t wait to read your new book for Blaze. You know I love your paranormals.
My current hero is from a movie–Hitman. He’s kind of a bad guy going to do good work to rid the world of evil. Timothy Olyphant plays him in the movie. He doesn’t have a name, just a number–47. If you haven’t seen it, try to if you get the chance. Can’t wait for Hitman 2.
Hi Candace,
I’m thrilled your new book will be published by Blaze. I’m sure it will be as wonderful as your paranormals.
I prefer the Mr. Darcy types to the others. There’s just something about a tall, dark handsome, intelligent, and slightly arrogant gentleman that does it for me.
Hi Candy,
Great post! I don’t dare say who may favorite heroes are. If my authors are doing their jobs right, the guy in whatever book I’m working on should be my favorite.
Still, I want to let everybody know what a great heroine you’ve got in your upcoming Blaze book. She’s very identifiable…and she certainly gets what’s coming to her.
You definitely fit in with the coolest sorority in Romance. Welcome!
Candy what a great topic! My heroes are always the complex type. Frequently tormented, not always perfect, but they come through in the end when they’re needed! Many come from film – Rick (Humphrey Bogart) from Casablanca, Charlie Alnutt (Bogie, again) in The African Queen – so not an alpha hero, but a true one nonetheless. In fiction, I love the dark heroes – Ranger and Joe Morelli in the Stephanie Plum series, and Jean Claude in Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake series. Archeron and all the dark hunter and dream hunter heroes.
But my number one hero comes from my favorite film of all time and one of the best books I’ve ever read: Atticus Finch from To Kill A Mockingbird. As rendered by Harper Lee and as performed by Gregory Peck, he has no equal. A true Beta hero. Compassionate, intelligent, protective, and gentle. Yet with a wealth of courage (standing up to a racist mob and to a rabid dog) and a sharpshooter’s eye that catches everyone (including Jem) by surprise. Tall, strong, handsome.
I’ll second the Hugh Jackman love. The man is gorgeous. And what an accent!
Formula One race fans will also be familiar with Mark Webber. Another tall, dark-haired, sexy Australian. And again, a sexy accent.
Past men with accents, give me a protector hero. Someone in the military, or a government agent — Seeley Booth, anyone?
I’m glad to see you write Blaze, Candy. I’ve been a fan of your paranormals, and can’t wait for your Blaze release!
Hi Candy!
Congrats on the upcoming Blaze release next year!
One of my favorite heros is Chuck Bartowski- lead character in the TV series Chuck. I have such a weakness for really smart guys and yeah- he’s not the conventional tough guy hero, but he always saves the day with his brain rather than his brawn. And damn if he doesn’t rock the short sleeved shirt and tie.
Hey, Candy, what a great way to start off the author’s portion of the blog. I’m looking forward to your book.
My current heartthrob is Hotch from Criminal Minds. Strong, sexy, smart – a noble hero and a great “mom” to his team. Oh yeah.
Wow! You guys, this is so cool. There are some heroes I hadn’t really thought about, and now I have to check them out.
I can’t believe I forgot about cowboys. (Clears throat.) I, um, dated a few of those back in the day. I swear some day I’m going to write cowboy story. LOL. I have lots of experience in that area.
I also forgot about Jean Claude, from Laurell’s books. I normally go for more of the alpha male, but I loved him in those books. And Joe and Ranger from the Evanovich books. Hello! How could I forget those guys! Atticus Finch was my very first favorite hero, back in the sixth grade when I read To Kill A Mockingbird. I wanted to marry a guy like that, and I kind of did.
I also love Timothy Olyphant in the Hitman movies, as well as Daniel Craig in just about anything. Sigh.
Brenda, Thank YOU! First for stopping by, and for mentioning my heroine Mariska. I must admit I’m slightly jealous of her, because she’s with Jackson. But I love her. She’s funny, self-effacing, and smart. And like all my heroines, she can hold her own when push comes to shove.
I adore Helsing. I would follow him to the ends of the earth to fight vampires at his side. Doesn’t hurt that he is Hugh Jackman! If he showed up at my door, my husband would so be yesterday’s news. LOL
Candy, you and me both about joining the coolest sorority. I’m in awe, actually.
And I’m a big fan of the Supernatural boys, too. So tortured, so strong in their pain. Gotta love them both.
Indie Jones has a place that’ll never be usurped, too. I mean, come on…smart and heroic!
Too many others to count. (I’m having fun looking at the emoticons here – what fun!)
Off to work on my revisions!
Great post…
Bonnie
My absolute favorite hero of all time was Rhett Butler in Gone With the Wind. Next is Christopher Reeves in Superman. My heart melts with either of them. Christopher Reeves was his eyes. He had eyes to die for. Rhett Butler was the character, with his “don’t care” but really does care attitude.
Evelyn
Hi Candy,
I recently became hooked on Blaze books and their talented authors and am thrilled that you will be one of them. Congratulations! I can’t wait to read your book.
I love the Indiana Jones type of hero, with lots of adventure and those special moments of intimacy and intrigue has always tugged at my heart, so yeahh, Jason Bourne! Who is to knock Edward (Twilight), lol if he does the right thing, it makes it all better, hehe. One comes to mind, a favorite hero of mine, Val Kilmer as he changes many hats in the movie The Saint. Loved the ending scene of that movie, tucked away in a secluded county cottage. Oh and when he posed as Thomas Moore, the sexy artist. I could go on, lol. Love heros that have rock hard solid muscle, attitude, deep intelligence and heart. The ones that work hard and play hard. Good luck!
Am I the only Battlestar Galactica fan in this group?
I’m currently head over heels for Helo, played so well by Tahmoh Penikett…and he’s Canadian, like me! Drop dead gorgeous…looking a little rough around the edges, but so intensely loyal and honorable. Perfect hero material, in my book!
Just have to jump in really quickly and say a definite yes to Michael Westin and Jason Bourne. I love those characters! And Candace, congrats on being a member of the Blaze Babes now.
Oooh, Jackson is like Michael Westin? Yummy!!!
In full disclosure, I’m Candace’s critique partner. I say that so you will know I’m *completely objective* when I tell you that Jackson is a hero worthy of loving. I adore heroes who are competent and take charge. Whether they use brains or brawn doesn’t matter (though a combination of both is the best).
My personal favorite is a combination of the Warrior and the Chief. I have this thing for Maximus in Gladiator. But the most awesome thing wasn’t just that he was a kick-butt warrior. It was that he inspired people, and he was a tactician. Same could be said for Clive Owen’s King Arthur. Or Jack Aubrey in the Patrick O’Brian books/Russel Crowe movie. *sigh*
ANyway. I’m glad I followed Candy to this blog. I will be reading and enjoying (as I do the Blaze novels). Definitely a cool sorority.
Great post, Candy! Thanks for taking the heat as the first author to post!
Indiana Jones is the type of hero I love.
Hey Candace!
You’re a great first author! Hmmm, heros, huh? Well I’d have to say that one of my all time favorites is still Indiana Jones. He’s just got the whole package going—-looks, brains, and can he do some great stunts or what?
Congratulations on a fantastic blog posting
I enjoy your paranomal books and will definately look into your Blaze offerings.
Ummm ok. I want, no need, a man with a sense of humor. If he looks good too well thats a plus but I don’t care how good he looks if he can’t laugh.
Candace, almost every hero named so far is awesome! I love Michael Westin, Dean and Sam Winchester are both hot, and honestly, I still love Robert Redford and Paul Neuman in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
Congrats on your continued success!
Is it bad that I could answer this question more easily about villains than heroes?
Candy, your characters are great So, if you write it, I will read it. I must say any “hero” with vampire tendencies is alright with me!
Hi: Love you, Candace. You are s fantastic writer and looking forward to reading more, so I’ll be lookingfor your Blaze story.
I am fickle with my heroes. Love whoever is present. Seriously, I like an Indiana Jones humor and that he has brains and brawn. Yums. Humor though gets to me first. Make me laugh! Also love vampaires, sey ones. Of course most of them are. hee hee. Good luck.
Hi Candy, Congratulations on your new home here at Blaze. I’m already in love with your hero after hearing you blog about him. I have no doubt the story will be incredible. I have a few favorite studs, Hugh Jakeman, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Pierce Brosnan. Yum.
Hugs,
Annette
Hi Candy!
First of all a bit Congrats! Love to see your books keep selling and you’ve made into Blaze.
As for heroes I love all kinds and types. Some of them have already been mentioned such as Sayd and Sawyer from Lost, Mr. Darcy and Michael Weston.
But there is one heroe I love and no one has mentioned. And he does deserve to be in this list. It’s Logan Echolls (Jason Dohring) from Veronica Mars. I know it was canceled, but it was one of most amazing shows ever.
Anyway, I kind of like the tormented heroes, the ones that are full of self doubt and can’t stop to ask themeselves.
Not Edward for me really, too pale. I preffer darker ones LOL.
Hey Candy,
Good times and can’t wait for the next book.
I love your books and books like them. I love the paranormal thing with witches, demons, vamps and other monsters. I have loved and watched many shows with just such heros, like: Supernatural, Smallville, Charmed Buffy, Angel and Sanctuary. I loved the Charmed and Dangerous series and I actually just got the King and I. Can’t wait to read it. I love Bronwyn. She is super fun, smart and sexy. She is one of my favorites, because she is one mighty witch and really knows how to take down the demons and bad guys.
Hey Candy!
Great to see you over here. You wear the red so beautifully.
My favorite hero of all time is Jesse DuFrayne from LaVyrle Spencer’s Hummingbird. Gotta love a guy who can go from ultra dark bandit to swooping hero all in one story.
I want to thank you guys for all the kind comments. I really appreciate it!
You’re making my day a really great one.
As for those heroes… I’m absolutely adding Chuck, Roark, Sam from Reaper and Hugh’s van Helsing to my list. I am all about a guy who can make me laugh. I think that’s way more important than looks. Though a good set of abs, is never a bad thing.
Harlequin and Candy rock! And as for my heroes–Edward is first and foremost at the current time. But Indiana Jones, Jason Bourne, Mr. Darcy are right behind him–maybe with Michael Westen from Burn Notice thrown in as #2. Nathan Fillion, Val Kilmer in The Saint and of course Johnny Depp, whether as Jack Sparrow or even his sweet role in Benny and Joon.
Congrats on your new Blaze book! I can’t wait to read it. I have always been a Blaze fan. It’s even better when one of my favorite authors from another genre jumps over.
When it comes to men I find two types that really get my motor going. I love the Jason Bourne, spy type characters. My hubby is one of those. Something about the internal struggles and mystery that always surrounds them makes me crazy. THye look all sweet and innocent but they are really bad-as*es. I also love the Cary Grant type. They have a heart of gold and old fashioned southern manners. You can jsut see both types sweeping you off your feet, but in different ways.
~sigh~.. now I think I am off to watch Pillow Talk again…lol.
Hi Candace
I can’t wait for you to write more books! I have read everything you have written so far and would love more. Heck, I would even read your grocery list!
Right now I am in love with Sam from Reaper. He is just so vulnerable and cuddly.
Mary
I gotta tell you one of my favorite heroes is actually one from my childhood. As a little girl I had such a crush on Cary Elwes as Wesley in The Princess Bride. That has always stayed with me. Personally I hate the type of character he tends to play now, because to me he will always be Wesley.
Heather – I completely agree with you. I LOVED Wesley and still do. I’m going to get my 3 yr old daughter to fall in love with him as well. Or at least when she’s a little older!!
Candace – I have loved everything you have written so far. Anything you write, I will get. I have several heros. So many it’s hard to keep track. One that keeps coming to mind is Jason Stathom as Frank in the Transporter movies. Didn’t like the red head in the last one. Definitely wouldn’t mind being in the car with Frank for days on end though!!
On television? Got to be Gregory House, probably stemming from my long-lived thing for Sherlock Holmes! Yes, he’s mean as a tomcat stepped on in the dark, but he’s brilliant and despite being broken, he’s still trying to fix others. In books, give me any Dick Francis hero — they’re all good guys in bad situations, manifesting heroes they never knew where inside them.
Congrats on your Harlequin Blaze Book! My favorite hero is Alex Cross from James Patterson’s books. He is smart, tough and a single dad who loves his children. I wish you continued success
Candy – been following you for a while (does that make me sound like a stalker(H)?) and I think we have similar tastes in heroes so I am so looking forward to reading the new book! Much success with it.
Hi Candy,
I agree with you, a good set of abs is never a bad thing.
As far as leading men (hero’s) go, I’d have to go with a combination of Johnny Knoxville from Dukes of Hazzard and Dennis Quaid from Smart People.
Smart, sweet, sexy, and so totally socially backwards that you can’t help but laugh.
I’m looking forward to the new book, and have already added it to my TBR list for next year.
Johnny Depp does pop up with great frequency when my mind wanders to hero territory…
Thank goodness, that’s a territory with easily passed borders. I’ve just invited a newbie in, Gilles Marini, who gets my heartbeat accelerating on Dancing with the Stars. Along, of course, with the adorable bad boy Maks — I even have his cardio video. Watching him almost takes the pain out –
Cheers,
Meg, happy dancing
Candance,
Congrats on the sale to Blaze…I’m mad about Roarke in the J.D. Robb books. To see Gerard Butler (Phantom of the Opera and 300) play him on the big screen would send this old woman to heaven happy, happy, happy!
Hi Candace, and welcome to Blaze! I think one of my favorite heroes is Jack Bauer…love those tough guys with the soft hearts. And when he gets out the electrical cords and strips back the rubber sheathing
…but I digress. And Heather, Wesley from A Princess Bride is still one of my favorite heroes of all time! Congrats on your new Blaze book, Candace.
Heather MacAllister summarized a strong portion of my hunk list. I’dd add Gerard Butler. And who wouldn’t love Bourne??
Great post, Candy!! So glad to have you in Blaze!
Mary Jacobs, thank you for mentioning my newest fave: Sam from REAPER. I love his buddy Soc, too.
I’ve been away and have missed a couple episodes,
, but I’m so glad I’m not alone in my, ahem, admiration.
Bonnie
alexander solarin from the eight…. something about a Russian Chess Grand Master makes the thought of him yummy…
Both Mr. Darcy’s, Firth and MacFadden (I think that’s his name) and okay I’m going out on a limb here but Chef Duff, Ace of Cakes makes me laugh!
Great way to start a blog, lots of nice things to contemplate
Hi Candace,
I love the secret agent types like Jason Bourne and James Bond. They’re pretty resourceful in tough and dangerous situations.
Hi Candace,
I adore Edward Cullen. I think he is so sexy! The way he feels about Bella, *sigh*
I drool over Johnny Depp on a regular basis. He’s funny, he’s sexy, he’s clever
Yummmmy!!! I occassionally have a minor lust attack over Orlando Bloom, and oh yeah baby – Rob Pattinson is gorgeous. Young *g* Very very young. But gorgeous.
Wow! What a great blog! I didn’t make it to Plotmonkeys yesterday so I didn’t know about this blog and I missed the kick-off. But I’m glad to make it today.
I love the big, strong alpha-hero who’s brought to his knees by the heroine. When that tough guy turns soft and is willing to do anything for her, I melt!
Great topic, Candace. And a great blog by the Blaze Babes! Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Hi Candace,
Give me a “yummy” man in a uniform any day.
Tawny, I am so with you on Rob Pattinson. He is utterly gorgeous. I have spent entirely too much time watching interviews.
As for fictional heroes…favorite hero ever has to be Lord Dain from Loretta Chase’s Lord of Scoundrels. I *adored* him and have read that book repeatedly just to see him again on the page. (More recently I’ve loved Edward from Twilight.)
Like so many commenters, the charming rogue is my kind of hero. I want a hero who is unrepentantly male without feeling remotely threatened by a strong heroine.
Great post, Candace!
Welcome Candace!
My kinda hero huh? Well I love the guys (Cousins) in Linda Lael Miller’s The McKettrick’s, the cousin’s who live in AZ. And I really love her Montana Creeds, Logan, Dylan and Tyler. I am just finishing reading Tyler! Sexy cowboy, heart of gold (well once you get past his walls) and is there to defend the woman he loves! What more could a girl ask for! LOL
Hi Candy!
Great blog! I adore an alpha male to the core! And extra stubble just curls my toes. My fave is Clive and okay, don’t know his name but the guy that plays dead Denny on Grey’s….yum…that’s one ghost that could haunt me any day!
I love your books! Have a great day!
Hi Candace!
I’m so glad to hear how well you’re doing! I just wanted to chime in to say that my hands-down, all-time, favorite literary hero is Jamie Frasier from Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series. Sizzling HOT HOT HOT!
Anyone?
Happy writing,
Charlene S. Engeron
Hi Candy!

I love all your books–to the point where I actually went out and BOUGHT them
Can’t wait for the new series to come out.
I had a huge crush on McGyver; I love a man who is gorgeous and can THINK his way out of trouble. (Besides, he had great hands…you can’t go wrong with a guy who has great hands…)
And I have to admit that I like a man who is just a little snarky. A slightly sarcastic wit that disguises a real heart…yum.
Welcome to Blaze and good luck on your new adventure!!!!
You’re a
Deborah
Give me Rourke from JD Robbs Death Series. Rich , handsome, intelligent—–what more could you want?
Candy,
It’s great to hear you’ll be writing for Blaze. I’m looking forward to your first release with them.
Debra
How exciting to jump into a new genre! I haven’t read much spy and intrigue stuff, but I look forward to acquiring some Blaze Babes stories. As for the characters I love, I run the complete gambit from Mr. Darcy to Ronan Dex (Stargate Atlantis) to Helo (Battlestar Galactica) to the Prime Minister (Hugh Grant) in Love Actually. I can’t wait to meet Jackson.
If only I could have Tom Selleck…with Sam Elliott’s voice, color me happy.
It’s nice to dream…
Oh, yes, have to chime in to agree with some of my fave young TV hunks–Chuck from Chuck and Sam from Reaper. Both adorably cute more than hot, both really smart. I’m a big fan of both shows.
And oh, man, Dean on Supernatural…that guy has GOT it.
Hey Candy:
Well – my favorite hero is not from a book, but I gotta say, it’s Angel (from the Buffy series, as I KNOW you know!). Tortured souls with lots of angst that are slightly dangerous. Ahem.
Congrats on being the first author post!
When I was a little girl I was in love with Nancy’s Drew’s boyfriend, Ned, but I got over wanting a good guy a long time ago (haha).
Candace
You did a great job on your blog. Congratulations on being the first one to blog. I love all of your writing articles. There are lots of heroes who “float my boat,” but the one who comes to mind now is Harrison Ford as Han Solo in the first Star Wars. Sexy! Handsome, cynical, just the right amount of macho. Good luck with your new series for Blaze.
I love the Blaze line and look forwarded to reading your book but that is pretty much torture having to wait until 2010.
My vote is for Hugh Jackman but Sawyer does it for me also.
I guess I’d vote for Pierce Brosnan back in the Remington Steele days (if any of you have been around that long…) The suave, debonair bad boy who always came up with an answer. He sort of reminds me of J.D. Robb’s Rourke in her futuristic series. Current television shows, I think I’d opt for Simon Baker on the Mentalist because of his smile.
I’m a sucker for the con men turned good–or are they?–types.
Captain Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly is a favorite, and now Nathan Fillion is in a new series – Castle, and he’s great I love the wise cracking bad boys, that can trade quips and barbs but will come through in the end for their lady.
Congrats on going in a new direction, I’m sure your Blaze book will be fabulous.
Hi Candace!
A hero from a movie would be Will Turner from POTC, man is a good looking pirate! From a book any of the cowboys I’ve read pretty much, those cowboys just get to ya.
See, even more I didn’t think of… Cary Grant, Johnny Depp, both of them rock my world.
I feel kind of pervy saying this, but I also like those cute boys on Gossip Girls, and Kevin McKidd on Greys. YUMMERS!
And for those of you in a panic, who secretly emailed me on the side, I AM NOT giving up writing paranormals.
I love magic. I’m working on a YA paranormal right now.
But the Blaze world gives me chance to shake things up and diversify with some stories that I’ve wanted to write for a really long time. I’m freaking out about how great you’ve all been today. And I’m having so much fun. I don’t want it to end.
I think I’m going to have to put in my bid for Indiana Jones. At least, the 1980s version, not the 2008 version.
Hi Candace,
Welcome to the Blaze family. As an avid reader, I’m always looking for someone new to read.
As far as my hero’s go, the first name that comes to mind is Sam Elliott. He might be old enough to be my father but I just don’t care. His voice is to die for. I also like Bruce Willis, Harrison Ford, Keanu Reeves. I know my list doesn’t make much since. I’m all over the place but that’s just me.
Have a great day.
Hey Candy!!!!! Kim G. from Nashville here waving and saying hi. When I saw on your website that you’ve got a Blaze coming out I was soooo excited!!!! I love Blazes and I love you so what a combination!!! Wait… I’m supposed to be talking men. Hmmm… I love men. My favorite is the slightly shy of alpha, don’t-mess-with-my-lady type that’ll drop a man in an instant while at the same time reaching over to squeeze his woman’s hand for comfort. Can’t think of a good tv/movie one at the minute though. My mind is mush.
Good luck with your Blaze! I’ll have it pre-ordered for my Kindle just as soon as it’s available.
My very favorite hero ever is Lois McMaster Bujold’s Miles Vorkosigan. He’s not your traditional romantic hero, but he’s proof that smart is super sexy.
Other favorites are Shane from “Agnes and the Hitman”, Pony from “Tinker” and “Wolf Who Rules”, and Suzanne Brockmann’s Wildcard Karmody, Cosmo Richter, and Jules Cassidy.
Sawyer on Lost does it for me, sexy bad boy but shows a better side now and then, even if reluctantly.
Love Loretta Chase’s Rupert in Mr. Impossible, with his glass half full attitude, playful and fun, smarter than most think he is, charges right into defend and protect when necessary. Then, Derek from Kleypas’ Dreaming of You, self-made from the streets, alpha – aggressive, dangerous and hard-edged, yet yearns for acceptance and love deep down, tender to his love and very protective, but still keeps that dark, dangerous edge.
I love the Blaze books they are soooo exciting!
Happy reading!
Penney
While Mr. Darcy holds a special place in my heart, my favorite hero has to be Captain Wentworth from Jane Austen’s PERSUASION. The fact that he would remain so contact to Anne throughout everything is what really makes him a special hero to me. I love everything about him.
Emerson from the Amelia Peabody series from Elizabeth Peters is a great hero–never mind that it’s Victorian England, he treats her as an equal–and demolishes anyone who would dare to hurt her. And he’s funny!
Wonderful to hear about the Blaze, Candy! And I’m going with this little coffee icon, as I need some! And feeding coffee to all the visitors you’ve had would put Starbucks in a panic.
And you were worried no one would comment!
Candy, I had no idea you were writing for Blaze. Congratulations on joining the Harlequin family, I know you’ll do spectacularly well!
Hi Candy! Can’t wait for the new book!
My favorite heroes include: The Doctor from Doctor Who, Captain Jack from Torchwood, John Crichton from Farscape, John Sheppard from Stargate Atlantis, and Paul Atreides from the novel Dune.
Hey Candy,
Personally I’m not a Mr. Darcy fan. (Apologies to my daughter, Kate, who is a card carrying member of the Jane Austin Society) For me, Jason Bourne all the way. I just finished re-reading the series and–cringe–I liked the movies better. Maybe it’s the Brad Pit thing-who knows. I love the tortured/ reluctant hero. Can’t wait to read your Blaze.
M
tv fav is Angel ( from Buffy ) but in books it would be the dark huter guy,s in sherrilyn kenyon books i like deep proding males.
Candy!!! Huge congratualtions on being the first to post, and on writing for Blaze, too! I know I’ll love these new books as much as I love your paranormal books!
I have too many fav heros to name, but enjoy your new guys!
Light,
Nancy Haddokc
Hi Candace,
Congrats on your sale to Blaze. Looking forward to reading about Jackson.
There are a lot of great heros out there, but the one that immediately comes to mind is JD Robb’s Rourke. You could do a whole book just on him.
I like to watch Veronica Mars episodes as well Lost. I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
