Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And, I'd like to get a hold of him!
A woman who sees the beauty within and a man who’s been transformed into a beast. I have to say that Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney movie and one of my most favorite on-screen kisses. The power of love is shown here so beautifully. Sigh!

This is steamy enough to wake the dead!
In John Ford’s The Quiet Man, Sean Thornton, is in perpetual Irish tussle with flame-haired Mary Kate Donaher (John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara). The kiss in the graveyard is oh-so-yummy.

Look at her. She's a little Vixen!
In Lady and the Tramp, he’s a dog from the wrong side of the tracks and she’s a pampered princess. Classic storytelling in this simply sweet kiss when Lady and the Tramps’ spaghetti tainted muzzles meet for what has to be Disney’s cutest fluffy smooch – awwww!

Is Mary Jane really the girl next door?
Spidey dangles upside down in the drizzle as Mary Jane slowly peels back his mask and instigates some tender lip-action in the movie Spiderman. I’m surprised the rain around them didn’t turn into steam.

That's right! You know you want him!
Star Wars was all about a war between the terrible Empire and a small rebel band, but it was the war between Leia and Han that got our juices flowing. Of course, the hostilities didn’t last long. Even though she says, “I’d rather kiss a wookie,” and Han, says “I can arrange that.” Leia falls into his arms and lip locks with this sexy, bad boy smuggler. You have to be without one female hormone in your body not to sigh at this kiss.

Good against evil--love conquers all!
In Ladyhawke, the lovers are being kept apart by an evil spell cast by the Bishop of Aquila, who is in love with Isabeau. The curse transforms Navarre into a wolf at nightfall and Isabeau into a hawk at sunrise, so they are “always together yet eternally apart,” as they can never touch in human form. Of course, good triumphs over evil and the kiss at the end of the movie is fabulous. But, the love between Navarre and Isabeau is so obvious and strong. After Navarre in wolf form nearly dies after falling through an iced-over river, Isabeau lies asleep beside the ailing wolf. As sunrise approaches, the wolf transforms into the human Navarre while Isabeau transforms into a hawk. For a split second, the lovers see each other in human form and reach out to touch one another. Now that’s romance.
Okay, I know you have an opinion. Let’s hear it.

These are all great kissing scenes. The one that comes to mind to me is in the Notebook…right after he says “I wrote to you every day.” HOT!
I LOVE Ladyhawke! It’s such a fantastic romance, and Rutger Hauer…yum.
The kiss in Bend It Like Beckham, at the airport just before she leaves for America, sticks out in my mind, partly because Johnathan Rhys-Meyers is just…wow…but I read somewhere that Parminder Nagra forgot her next line after they kissed, LOL.
LOL, Anne. That cracks me up! I can understand why Parminder forgot her next line!
I’m partial to the scene in The Thorn Birds, when Richard Chamberlain catches Rachel Ward on the beach. Talk about a build-up of sexual tension!
Good topic, Karen!
This may be my only comment today because I’m traveling to a romance retreat. So, I’m here in spirit. I’ve only picked five out of all the kissing scenes I love. There are so many more. Even almost kisses are hot like that scene between Kiera Knightley and Matthew Mcfadyen in the remake of Pride and Prejudice when they’re fighting and he leans in like he’s going to kiss her. Wow. The look on his face and her reaction is one of shaken shock. It’s so good. I’ll try to check in again this afternoon.
Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon in Bull Durham, hands down first favorite, and Pierce Brosnan/Rene Russo in The Thomas Crowne Affair.
For TV, Buffy and Angels first kiss, and Veronica and Logan’s kiss by his car in the episode “Hot Dogs” Season one.
I love their sexy reluctance (“What are we doing?”) LOL — it was such a perfect capture of a tumultuous relationship to come.
Sam
In Last of the Mohicans when Hawkeye seeks out Cora and the music swells . . . (L)
Love Ladyhawke! One of my favorite romance movies.
The best kiss for me though is in the 2004 Phantom of the Opera, between Christine and the Phantom at the end of the movie. (L) What a kiss(es). I melt every time.
Richard Gere and Debra Winger in AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN when he sweeps her up in the factory at the end, dressed in his officer whites.
(Heather, YES on Hawkeye and Cora!! That is the sexiest movie scene EVAH!!!)

My favorite on screen kiss and probablly most romantic is in the last scene of Never been kissed with Drew Barrymore and David Arquette. She is standing in the middle of the baseball diamond pouring out her heart to him and not even knowing wether or not he is there and listening(because they had a bad parting) and when she is through she stands waiting for a response as the clock winds down (Because she put a time limit on the amount of time she will stand there and wait) and just as she is ready to walk off the pitchers mound and has lost hope that he will show. He runs out to her giving her THE most romantic kiss of all time! It gives me goose bumps just thinking about it and When I watch the movie I always end up crying!
Okay so I’m a big sap! LOL (W)
My fave love scene, for its real love elements & steamiest “pottery-making” love scene, was between Molly & Sam, the characters that Patrick Swayze & Demi Moore portrayed, in GHOST. (I heard admissions to pottery-making classes jumped after this film, & I can really believe it.) I’ve watched this scene about 20X, & it still makes me tingle all over. There may be other kisses that were hotter, but, as a totality, for me, nothing showed real & sexual love better than this one.
Sam, I also loved the Brosnan/Russo combo in THE THOMAS CROWNE AFFAIR, & I remember reading that Russo didn’t realize how much “showed” under her filmy dress she wore during the dance scene–LOL. I almost didn’t see this film, as I loved the original, but, this remake (& the actors) did a great job.
Your choices are all so good. Some of my favorites include that first kiss in Bella’s bedroom in “Twilight.” I love the one in Thornbirds too, as well as Ghost. And all of the kisses in Love Actually. I love that movie. Oh, and the second Thomas Crown Affair and my absolute favorite is in Pride and Prejudice with Matthew MacFayden and Keira Knightley. Wowza. Fanning self.
Oooh, yeah! The kiss in Twilight. I read they cleared the entire day to shoot that scene. Must have been a hardship
I agree about Love Actually–that’s my favorite romantic movie.
This post has made me realize I can’t remember any kiss scenes from movies! Gah. How lame for a romance author. Must pay closer attention…
Great kisses. I love the kiss in Twilight. Also the one by Tom Cruise in Top Gun. Except the memory is slightly tainted because I saw that movie with my dad! :-O
Man, the Han Solo/Princess Lea one. One of my favorites.
The other one that sprang to mind was Evie and Rick in The Mummy. They waited (and made you wait) the entire movie til the very end for that kiss. Definitely worth it. Those two had a great chemistry. (L)
Julie
All of those kisses are classics! One of my favorite kisses is from ROOM WITH A VIEW. It was in a beautiful Italian setting, but I loved it because the kiss changed everything in the story.
I like when they put a lot of emphasis on the first kiss and I don’t mind waiting for it (like in THE MUMMY) if the characters have a lot of chemistry.
Sam, I’m with you on Bull Durham and Thomas Crowne Affair. Huge sizzle points for those. I also second Heather’s nominee of Last of the Mohicans. Of course, Daniel Day Lewis makes even holding hands sexy… remember the Age of Innocence? I thought the kiss and love scene in Matchpoint was also as sexy as can be. If only it hadn’t been a prelude to such a… um… dysfunctional relationship.
Karen, love the Quiet Man. Gorgeous scenes, fabulous kiss….
Lady and the Tramp! I’d forgotten about that one!
I love kissing scenes! While at the movie theater watching The Lake House I swear I almost shouted “Will you kiss her already!”
You had me at Beauty and the Beast
What a fun post! I had to think about it and sadly, like Jamie, I can’t remember that many kisses from movies. More research!!!
The one that does come to mind, though, is that final kiss at the very end of Pirates of the Caribbean between Elizabeth and Will as they say goodbye. Oh yeah, hot!!
My favorite on screen kiss is from the last scene of Bridget Jones’ Diary. Especially when she tells him that nice boys don’t kiss like that and he say oh yes they freakin’(not the actual word used) do. Sigh!
(F) My heart palpitations belong to two movies. First (an oldie but a goodie) Dirty Dancing, when her father finds out about them two and she asks him to dance with him, Last, but not least, Armageddon, when Ben Affleck & Liv Tyler are having a picnic and Liv asks Ben “If there were other couples out there doing what they were doing right then” and he answers “Sure, otherwise what would be the point of saving the world?” – sigh!. (L)
Oooh…some AWESOME kiss choices here! I love that scene in The Quiet Man (which is reenacted in E.T. lol!)
This is funny, because just last night, I rewound the last few minutes of the movie French Kiss, with Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline, and told my husband I thought it was a fabulous movie kiss.
Something about the way he clenches her dress in his fists as he kisses her deeply just screams, “Helplessly besotted, crazy about, mad about you!”
Sam & Joanne: Bull Durham is one of my favorite movies. The nail polish scene…they’re not even kissing but it’s so incredibly hot. But that one speech he gives her about what he believes in. Wow! Coarse yet so incredibly sensual. Just love it.
those are cool havent herard of the others

the notebook
the thornbirds that was ohot forbidden lvoe gotta love that (Y) (H) (L) (K)
I’m kind of a movie junkie, along with a book junkie. There are so many good screen kisses… and not many in Hollywood romantic comedies!
Phantom of the Opera, It’s a Wonderful Life, Moulin Rouge, Speed, Bull Durham, Atonement, and one of the best never seen movies, Dear Frankie, with Gerald Butler! Ahhh.. so many more to list. (U)
