So many wonderful things came out of the television show Friends, but among the most memorable was “the list.” Remember Ross’s laminated card of celebrities, should he meet them, that he would be able to have sex with them with no guilt or recriminations? What always struck me as funny was that it was laminated. A permanent list. How can someone do that? Mine is always changing.

For several years, I had the “two Hughs” at the top — Grant and Jackman (though Grant fell in and out of grace on the list, but his performance in Love, Actually kept landing him a spot even after I kicked him off…). Our own Leslie Kelly has been fortunate enough to actually meet THE Hugh, so we can completely understand why she would have him on her list. Meeting in person would have to clinch it!

The only constant on my list is Pierce Brosnan. I’ve loved him since Remington Steele. The man has looks, talent, smarts, social conscience, class… the whole package. I think I can safely say he will never be off my list (well, as long as he never sticks with that terrible scruffy facial hair, etc — that was bad). I’m sure he’s relieved to know this. Pierce

My recent list has included Enrico Colantoni, whom I enjoyed in Just Shoot Me, but he became listworthy in Veronica Mars (it was the Sheriff’s uniform). Also, Tim Roth, though I have to say I think it’s more Roth’s character Cal Lightman on the new show Lie to Me whom I find attractive.

I also have to include Tony Head. I love Angel and Spike, but I would have taken Giles over both of them, any day. I just discovered Jeremy Renner (Jason) and Ian Kahn (Davis) from The Unusuals. There has to be room for them on the list; they could probably bump the fictional Cal Lightman.

As you can see, my list is always a work in progress. You can also guess why most of my heroes, almost all, are dark-haired.

Who is on your list? Could you have it laminated or are you fickle like me? Share, and I’ll pick a winner to receive a cute mini-tote I made. There might even be a book inside. :)

    (W)

  2. Ah, multiple laminated cards! Why didn’t I think of that?

    Brilliant, Petro!

Lists! Mine are ever changing, but here’s who’s on there now: ;-)
Simon Baker (unusual for me, I usually go for the dark-haired guys!)
    Clive Owen
    Chris Meloni from L&O: SVU
Mark Harmon and Michael Weatherly from NCIS
Thomas Gibson and Shemar Moore from Criminal Minds
Benjamin Bratt (NOT how he looks in his latest series, though…ICK)
    Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs

    I’m sure there are more!!

    • Your BB pick made me think of Lou Diamond Phillips — I get them confused, but whichever… made me think of NUMB3rs — I love Rob Morrow. I think I have to back up and make space for him on the permanent list.

So, Rob and Pierce are my two permanents. ;)

      Love Mike Rowe, too. :)

  4. Kathleen O'Reilly says:

    Daniel Craig. (Y)

  5. Penney Wilfort says:

Pierce Brosnan and Alan Rickman are on my list always. (Alan Rickman is in Harry Potter as Prof. Snape also the die hard movie and many more)
    Penney
    happy 4th! (F)

  6. Wow, just one name on your list? you are FOCUSED. ;)

    Sam

  7. Liza says:

Let’s see, my list includes Johnny Depp, Colin Firth, Ryan Reynolds, Patrick Dempsey, and Hugh Jackman. Ryan Reynolds is new to my list and my list is also always a work in progress.

    • Nice list. :) Colin Firth — absolutely. :)

I have never been a Depp girl, though I know Tawny plans to wallpaper her office in her new house with his photos. *G*

Love the variety of lists… :)

      Sam

  8. Fedora says:

Hmm… I doubt I could have a single permanently laminated list… Maybe multiple lists, especially if these lists include photos ;) , but there are additions and occasional deletions when people may do things that completely ruin my perception of their characters (ahem). Some that are on the current list–Hugh Jackman, Colin Firth, Gilles Marini, Harrison Ford (although I tend to remember him in a marginally more youthful rendition)… And Sam, who’s to say that Tawny’s new house isn’t already wallpapered with Mr. Depp’s photos?

    • Fedora, have you got inside info on Tawny? Please share. *G*

It’s true, that sometimes we know way too much about the celebs, and it can take the shine off. Like I thought HJ was so goofy in his Actor’s Studio interview, it took a teeny bit of the shine off, not much, but a little. And I hate the guys who leave their families for some actress that they’re working with, and unfortunately that includes HF. Ironically, I like the guys who are most devoted to their wives, families, etc. Playboys, etc don’t do much for me.

      Sam

      • Fedora says:

True–the infidelity thing is awful. I had managed to block that about HF. And I think I almost prefer to coast along in ignorant bliss, without reading or watching too much about these guys… it’s way to easy to see the tarnish otherwise!

  9. LindaC says:

George Clooney, Michael Weatherly and Mark Harmon of NCIS, Christian Bale, Colin Firth, Danny Pino of Cold Case, William Peterson formerly of CSI, Michael J. Fox, Paul Walker of The Fast and The Furious, Victor Webster of Harper’s Island.

I like brainy guys, but I’m also drawn to the ‘boy next door’ and the bad boy. I guess it just depends on the mood I’m in when I read or watch TV/movies.

When I write, I’m drawn to betas.

    LindaC

    • Hmm, I hadn’t thougt of it in a Alpha/Beta way. I don’t like the over the top alpha (can’t think of one at the moment…). Maybe the combo guys, the Gamma crowd are what I like best… I think most of my list would fall there.

      Sam

  10. Jody F. says:

I’ll try not to get too carried away with listing names here. But here are my freebies…..Ryan Reynolds, Gerard Butler, Jensen Ackles, Tahmoh Penikett, and Taylor Kitsch.

  11. Patsy L Roberts says:

    (K) My list will probably always have country star Kenny Chesney on the top. Although I would lean towards Tim McGraw(if he weren’t married but since he is that leaves him out)
    (Y) But most definately Kenny.
    Laminate that list! LOL

  12. CrystalGB says:

On my list is Hugh Jackman, Matthew McConaughey, Orlando Bloom, Jensen Ackles, and Johnny Depp.

  13. Colleen says:

My list changes every so often… what a list of names above! Ooh Jensen Ackles, Tom Welling, …. :-D

  14. Jane says:

My list would contain Christian Bale, Eric Bana and Richard Armitage.

  15. ThatBrunette says:

There are very few actors/celebrities that I like enough to put on my list. Their characters, on the other hand, can make my list. Something about them being non-real makes them a bit more desirable. Heck, I even like my men animated.

I agree, Remington Steele was tasty. Depp in Chocolat. Jackman as Wolverine. There are a few others. Many others. :-)

  16. If the list is laminated, then how do you check off names? ;-)

    • Petro says:

*gasp* :-O Check off Heather ???
George or Johnny or Pierce can never be “checked off”

      LOL :-D !!

    • Patsy L Roberts says:

(*) Maybe put a gold star next to their names so you can go back and do it again! :-D

    • LOL Heather… good point. Have to keep track. ;)

Of course, the only male celebrity I have been in conversational range from, though he was talking to someone else at the time, and I was eating a club sandwich, was Rob Lowe. I’m surprised he hasn’t popped up here, the cutie. ;)

      Sam

  17. Armenia says:

It must be the James Bond thing…. I can laminate my list with Pierce Brosnan and Sean Connery, hands down. :-D (Y)

  18. chey says:

    My list can be laminated
    Pierce Brosnan
    Johnny Depp
    George Clooney
    Mark Harmon
    Sean Connery
    Roger Moore

  19. Lois says:

Sure was a nice picture to be welcomed too! :) My list. . .

    Sean Connery, numero uno! :)
    Colin Firth
    Pierce Brosnan
Gerard Butler (well, as the Phantom mostly) ;)

    Lois

  20. Hellos to everyone, and thanks for coming by (I’m in and out today between various things going on…)– interesting lists, and some names I don’t know… will have to check them out…

I see a lot of folks mentioning Gerard Butler, and I know that just thinking that name will send Karen Foley into a swoon *G* but I really don’t know much about the man… clearly, my education is lacking. ;)

Armenia, yes… Connery and Brosnan. IMO, there aren’t any other Bonds (apologies to the Craig fans — I did like him in QoS, but I’m just not “there” with him…).

Patsy! LOL A rating system? 1-5 stars (it would help thin out the list… ) *G*

ThatBrunette, yeah, I agree — a certain role can really make some actors shine more than others…

  21. Nicole S says:

Well for movie/tv celebrities it would be:
    Orlando Bloom
    Hugh Jackman
    Patrick Dempsey

Then I have to have a Sports list:
    Melky Cabrera
    Grady Sizemore
    David Wright
    Garrett Jones
    Eli Manning
    (Hopefully sports count)

I couldn’t laminate mine because I would likely add more

  22. My list has changed over the years–for example; in the 80’s it would have included Bruce Willis and Mel Gibson–now, not so much.
The Top Ten list for 2009 includes Danial Craig, Gerard Butler, Eric Bana, Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, Eric Dane (McSteamy) Colin Firth, Hugh Jackman, Andy Griggs and Brad Paisley (last 2 are Country singers)

    • Laure says:

I didn’t know there was anybody else out there who remembered Andy Griggs. Been so long since he was on the radio. He’d be on a whole lot more lists if anyone heard even one note from that delicious voice.

  23. Jillian, Mel was one of mine for a LONG time. I’ve seen every movie he did up until 2000, even very old ones, several times. :) Lethal Weapon is still one of my favorites. :) But yeah, not so much anymore… I felt like he really kind of spiraled off somewhere…

I am so not in the know about singers, LOL. I hardly know any of them.

I do think Jon Stewart is also a cutie. ;)

    Sam

  24. Nicole, sports are fine, though I don’t know any of them! LOL But it’s your list — you can have whoever you want. :)

Also, was surprised not to see Jeff Donovan pop up on anyone’s lists (Burn Notice) — I think he’s really attractive, but the one show that put me off a little was when he wore his bathing trunks — he’s so skinny! LOL I like a little more meat on a guy. He does look very nice dressed up, and I have to say, the old Pretender epis with him and Michael T Weiss (which I own) are true fantasy material…

So… I should pick names and draw a winner… back soon!

    Sam

  25. My winner for today’s blog is FEDORA! ;)

Congrats, and have a great holiday weekend. :)

Just send me your addy at samhunter@samanthahunter.com, and I’ll get things sent out next week. :)

Thanks everyone for coming by — have a great 4th!

    Sam

  26. Patricia says:

Sam, Am late with my list, but, other than Simon Baker (who I thought was great before he was known) & George Clooney, I liked some of the oldtime actors, i.e., Cary Grant & James Dean (a blaze that, unfortunately, burned out way too quickly).

My lists seem to be laminated.

BTW, Grady Sizemore is great looking!

    Patricia

  27. Patricia, thanks for coming by and sharing at any time! :)

Simon Baker is cute and I have always like George Clooney as well, though he’s never made my list, for whatever reason… though he’s obviously a wonderful guy. Maybe it’s just that he’s such a guy’s guy — there doesn’t seem to be much romantic about him, you know? He’s such a committed bachelor, and so I think that kind of keeps him off my list, though good for him in knowing what he wants in life. :) Better that than getting married 10 times. LOL

I don’t know Grady Sizemore — have to go peek…

    Sam

  28. Colleen says:

    Congrats Fedora! (F)

  29. Dee says:

    Congrats, Fedora!

I just found this link, but still wanted to share my…um…lists. I’ve always had this problem. In high school, my friends Joy, Krissy and I set out to make out top 10 favorite hockey players. On last count, we gave up at 50 or 75.

My list is always changing [which was once how a friend on a message board started calling me "bandy" because she said I could bounce in my celeb affections like a rubber band.] My current list is, in no specific order except maybe for the first two: Nathan Fillion, Chris Pine, Hugh Jackman, Clive Owen, Taye Diggs, George Clooney, Patrick Dempsey, Christian Bale, Brendan Shanahan [15 years and going], Jason Arnott, Nick Lachey, Keith Urban…

Ok, that;s just off the top of my head.

  30. Teresa says:

    Hugh Jackman
    Noah Wylie
    Jerry O’Connell
    Pierce Brosnan
    Kevin Costner
    Harrison Ford

Nothing more to be said :-P

  31. OMG. Nathan Fillion.

How could I have forgotten, let alone not put him on my permanent list?

    I am shamed. *G*

Teresa, you are a woman who knows your list, obviously. ;)

    Sam

  32. Darla says:

Alex O’Laughlin aka Mick St. John from Moonlight… I’m drooling already!
Dean Cain – for me it was the tights and the smile… Sigh
John Dye – Andrew the Angel of Death on Touched by an Angel
Derek Jeter – I met him when he was in the minors and he’s still sexy several years later!

    Darla
I need to wipe the drool up….

  33. Gracen says:

I had a list at one time but nowadays it’s more a Gerard Butler list – I could wear that man out. Just sayin’! ;-)

  34. Kathryn says:

Pierce is definitely on my list, along with Hugh Grant. I love the dark haired, blue eyed…
