Living and loving the fantasy . . . Blaze Style!

Posted by Blaze Author in Bonnie Edwards
Reading romantic fiction is a wonderful way to explore all sorts of fantasies: sexual, lifestyle and even automotive!
Anyone who reads Blaze romances understands the appeal of reading sexual fantasy from a woman’s perspective. We want romance, passion that’s ours alone (Romeos and hound dogs need not apply), and an intense physical connection.
With lifestyle fantasy we get to see how the other half lives. Whether we’re broke and dreaming of winning that jackpot lottery, to being city-bound and dreaming of wide-open spaces and sky, to being surrounded by desert and dreaming of life onboard a luxury yacht or cruise ship. Or vice versa. We can read a Blaze romance and live out a delicious fantasy in a setting totally removed from our everyday existence.
I included the automotive fantasy selfishly because I love cars. I love to drive different types of cars…old ones, muscle cars, the new version of muscle cars, British, Japanese, hybrids, antique you name it: I drive them. Not literally, of course.
I indulge that fantasy because I write. Years ago, I figured out that I’d never be able to drive a classic Ford Mustang (the new retro style is fine!) because of the leg room I need. Well, I could if it had an automatic transmission, but where’s the fun in that? So I gave my dream car to a heroine. She appeared in my first published novel in the spring of 2001, driving a ’65 red convertible.
Next I wanted to indulge my fantasies by writing about a mechanic-to-the-stars hero, who worked only on classic cars. A ton of fun for me! I drove a fun sporty car at the time, but I knew I’d be trading it in soon. I wanted to keep that car with me so I wrote it into the story.
As much as I love my fantasy cars, I’ve never had one on a cover. Until now. This month the art department will be doing a photo shoot for Possessing Morgan. (Y) They’ll use a British Morgan (Y) (Y) on the cover with my tow trucker heroine and my tycoon hero: she’ll be wearing work boots and Daisy Duke shorts. He won’t!
Ah! The fantasy life of a writer. If you could indulge your fantasies what would they be: sexual? Lifestyle? Automotive? I’m sure my automotive fantasy may be a tad unconventional for most women. But, you know, it’s mine and I love that I get to indulge it. (Having said this: I’m just now back from a Nissan dealership and a major drool over their new 370Z — Oh! Baby!)
I would love to hear from readers about favorite fantasies as lived in Blaze novels. And if your fantasy is a little…um, unconventional, (H) then I’d love to hear that too!

Any of the blazes with a cowboy as the Hero I live out a fantasy. I love cowboys! I do an automotive fantasy, of owning a jeep. Always have and one day I’m going to.
I also agree to your point i also like cow boy theme its a great fantasy one can ever dream having a ride on speedy bike at night .
Mine are definitely travel fantasies lived out through setting — when I’m writing about a place I have been it’s a great way to revisit it in my mind and memories, all of the things I love about that location. I love sharing that experience with my characters and my readers.

I do the same thing – but with motorcycles. I find it incredibly sexy for a hero to ride one… that bad boy, modern knight on his stead thing… but I’m terrified to ride one. Another fantasy is travel – and I incorporate that in my writing too… Have a library of travel books of places I want to visit.
My fantasy life includes a barn full of horses and all the right tack. I’d have a couple of reining horses to chose from, and then there’d be the 3-day eventer. I’d have the Missouri Foxtrotter when I was in the mood for a gaited horse, and an Arab for when I wanted to be fancy. I’d have a couple of Mustangs rescued from the BLM in Nevada. They’d be good for my timid guests and when I needed endurance. But I’d always come back to my reining horse. She’d be a small chestnut mare who was bitchy most of the time but really fast and responsive.
And yeah, my heroes have to ride.
So, Lucinda for you it’s not cowboys who ride? It’s owning the horses?
And LOL, I’m thinking the small chestnut mare sounds like your heroines! “bitchy…but fast & responsive”.
LOL…just the other day, I was admiring the arms of a man riding a Harley. You know: powerful muscular arms. I don’t know why, but I assume a guy on a bike is not going to be a chatterbox. He will be quiet and thoughtful, either that, or just plain antisocial. Whatever, his arms are nice.
Love the travel fantasy! I have a coffeetable book called “The Most Beautiful Villages in Tuscany”. I flip through it when I need to dream.
And being a city girl I love cowboys! Now if they also drove fabulous cars…I’d be in heaven.
(trying to figure a way to get one of those 370Z s ) I know! I could write a book that sells millions of copies….talk about a fantasy!(D)

Oh, Tuscany! I would love to go there. I don’t write about places I haven’t been, but what a great trip that would be!
I am the most boring car person — I buy primarily based on safety ratings, LOL.
I have to add, though, after thinking about my previous post, that my characters tend to do quite a few adventurous things (ahem, such as what Lacey and Jarod do on the top observation deck of the Empire State Building in my current release, LOL) in the settings that are definitely NOT based on my own experiences — but that’s the fantasy part!

Delilah, ride a motorcycle of your own, not on the back of someone else’s. MUCH better for the control freak in all of us. Riding on the back was fine until I owned my first one. After that, I couldn’t ride comfortably on the back anymore. You can go to almost any Harley dealership and they’ll teach you.
Horses and cowboys I grew up around so it has to be a really, REALLY special cowboy to catch my eye.
For me, cars have never been a ‘fantasy’ because I’ve owned so many, but that goes with what I did in my youth
I want to travel. I have a few countries/places/cities I’d love to visit so I do that in the books I write and read. And travel to certain places too, like Perdition House. Places that are so rich in someone’s imagination that they become a living, breathing place. There are a few others, but I think you know what I mean. (L)
Perdition House? I think most women would enjoy a night or two in there. And you’re a tease to mention the place. (*) And that house will always live and breathe in my head and heart.
NM…seems being in control would be much more fun than being a passenger. That whole “control” fantasy is another story. Wowza!
I don’t know, Bonnie, depends on what you’re a passenger on…
(H)
And I calls ‘em as I sees ‘em and I’d love to visit Perdition House. (*)
Well, Bonnie, the ride I usually fantasize about while I’m writing for Aphrodisia is the hero himself! I mean, the Native American cowboy I wrote about in “Long Hard Ride” (TEMPTED BY A COWBOY, out now!) would never in a gazillion years give ME a second glance in real life! But in that story he slid right into proposition mode!
Another fantasy I’m indulging myself in now, writing as Charlotte Hubbard, is a vintage bungalow. I mean one of those cute Craftsman-style houses with all the architectural doodads and built-ins–partly because I’ve done a lot of research on Sears kit homes, and partly because when we were house-looking not long ago, in a Mary Engelbreit-esque house, the dh announced that this style just “didn’t speak to him.” (you can well imagine how *I* spoke to him when we left that Open House!)
So now to make my Ultimate Fantasy of owning a cute bungalow very near the shore/beach in Oregon, that’s where my next series is set! God knows I won’t get paid nearly enough for those books to afford the fantasy!
Methinks I feel another “House Hunters” fan nearby. I’m addicted to real estate shows! Talk about living a fantasy! I love the House Hunters International, too. Costa Rica, Italy, Spain! Wow…so fun.
I’m a big fan of craftsman style homes, too. I think they’re so great…I recall the one you described in the Christmas anthology.
Fun that we get to write what we secretly desire. (well, maybe not so secret now!)
Bonnie, we have a couple of Sear’s Catalog houses within walking distance. They’re very cool. That might be something to write into a book…
67 Camaro, candy apple red. Totally tricked out, beefy sound motor. Racing wheel and it has to run like a jackrabitt.
That and a sexy as hell alpha male haveing a hell of a time watching the heroine enjoy the muscle!!!
yeah baby
