Temptation. It’s a good topic for the Blaze Blog right? I mean, who doesn’t love a good discussion about what tempts us to experience things outside our comfort zone? Yeah, as much as I’d love to tell you that I’ve done something wild and crazy lately…uh, no. Instead, I’ve been tempted into insanity by Disney World. The insanity of vacation planning. I’ve gone off the deep end. Everyone who knows me will agree.

I’m not even sure why I’ve lost it. No, that isn’t exactly true. I’ve lost it because I want this to be an absolutely perfect vacation for my girls (8 and 5). They’ve both been to Disney before but Baby Girl doesn’t really remember the experience. This time they’re both old enough to make the kind of memories that last a lifetime. I want those magic moments for them. I want them to look into the sky with an expression of awe and a smile on their faces as they watch the fireworks around Cinderella’s castle. I want them to giggle when they meet Prince Charming and squeal at seeing Mickey Mouse. Hence the insanity.

Seriously, we’re dining at the castle, they’re being made into princesses, we’ve got a private safari at the Animal Kingdom, we’re even going to a special Halloween party where they get to trick-or-treat around the Magic Kingdom. I have an excel spreadsheet with our schedule for every day. The scary part? I am so not a planner. At all. Ever. I do not believe in lists – although I have 3 separate packing lists now for this trip. I’ve started scrapbooking. I’ve made the girls matching t-shirts. I’ve even printed out special autograph cards. I’ve. Gone. Off. The. Deep. End.

Anyone have a cure? Anyone have Disney suggestions? Anyone have temptations of their own they’d like to share?

Kira

P.S. I’ll be at my local RWA meeting most of today but I’ll be checking in later this afternoon…right after I look at the Disney boards.

I’ve never been to Disney World but I spent 3 days at Disneyland too many years ago to matter. It’s probably changed a lot since the 1970′s. I had a friend that didn’t have a computer so I went online and requested a DVD from Disney World about vacationing there. All my siblings have been there multiple times. Since I have rheumatoid arthritis now I doubt very seriously I will be getting there anytime soon. I couldn’t handle all that walking. My temptation would be to go visit some lighthouses. I have never seen one but I have many postcards of them. When my friends or family go anywhere that has a lighthouse they pick up postcards for me. I would love to see one in person sometime even though I couldn’t climb up to the top.

  2. Kira, are you reading the “How to do Disney” type books? We followed some of the suggestions on which rides to go to at which times and it really worked. Also, if you’re staying on the property, go back for afternoon naps. It’s tempting to just stay the day, but it makes a HUGE difference.

  3. Linda, I love lighthouses too but have never seen any in person. Disney is so magical! You could always rent one of those motorized scooters and see Disney that way.

Heather, thanks for the suggestions! I’m hoping to fit a few naps into the week…we’ll see how that goes. We are staying on property so that will definitely help.

  4. I concur with Heather. The “How to” Disney book I used was WONDERFUL . I used it to plan our ride schedule to prefectly fit our family and the children’s ages and we NEVER waited more than 20 minutes for a ride and most rides we waited less than 10 minutes. USE THE FAST PASSES!
    And have a great time!
We went last summer for the first time and it’s still the most magical vacation ever.

    Kira,

I agree with Heather…. That’s the main attraction to staying on the property, that ability to recharge during the day. We always did a park in the AM, went back to the hotel for an afternoon at the pool, and then went back either at supper, or after supper and stayed then…. Once we discovered the idea of an afternoon siesta, Disneyworld became a fav for everyone (except for DH, who has somehow escaped the magical allure of the Disney machine).

Your girls will love it! And you’re obviously already having a good time ;-). I think kids feed off our enthusiasm, so no doubt they’ll be really jazzed. I love the Mouse. The parks are always so clean and well maintained, and the folks who work there behave as though they’re glad you’re there. That’s such a nice plus. We did the Disney planner books too. Actually, my husband did. I was NOT looking forward to the itinerary he chose, which the guidebook called Dumbo or Die in a Day. But in hindsight, it was wonderful he spent time planning because it meant we got so much more out of our days at the park.
