Every once in a while writers get reminded in a wonderful way why we write. Yeah, we write because it’s fun, because the money is good, the voices in our head demand it, and for the sheer joy of creating. But on Wednesday, I received this wonderful email and it simply made my day. So if you love a book and think that your email won’t matter, think again.

Here is the email and she’s complimenting Up Close and Dangerously Sexy

I live in the suburbs just north of Boston, MA. I have read your books before (I normally order each month from eharlequin, so I’m a bit behind since I’m just reading my March order..lol) Anyway, I don’t think that I have ever emailed you before, but just had to. I absolutely LOVED LOVED LOVED this story!!! I was up until 2 a.m. this morning to finish it. And of course when I did I was like…OMG OMG it sounds like there is going to be a “to be continued here….”….lmao!!! So my original email was going to be to ask you that until I went on your website and got my answer….wooo hooo…I can’t wait until the next story comes out.

So about this book, I just have to tell you I loved everything about it!! Uh, I could gush gush about this one. I have to tell you, in these hard and busy times, there is NOTHING like picking up a great story like yours and getting lost in it. Forget everything for a litte while and get lost in something so interesting. BRAVO BRAVO !!!

Lastly, it must be great to have the talent to write such great books and thank you for writing such a great story for your readers to read.!!!!

I need to apologize for being late. My book deadline is tomorrow and I wanted to make sure it’s as good as I can make it especially after receiving this email. And what is my excuse for last month? Well, I was at the RWA Conference and my use of a computer was limited.

Until next time. . .

Hi Karen, thank you for doing what you do. That goes out to all the other authors out there. I loved Up, Close and Dangerously Sexy as well. Can’t wait to read the next in the series. I also loved your story in Endless Summer with Julie Kenner and Jill Monroe. I have some of your other stuff, but I can’t remember the titles right now. Just so you know, writing an email to one of your fav authors is one of the hardest things a reader can do, at least that has been my experience. It is hard because you don’t know how it will be received, and you don’t want to hurt feelings if you mentions suggestions. The time before you press the send button is pure agone, which I am sure most writers are familiar with, because you know once you do, it is gone. The best thing, though, is when you open your email and see that you have a response to the one you sent. It is this moment when you experience a great joy and solidified your love for your fav author. It is very humbling, to get an email from one of your favs, especially knowing how busy they are with not only writing, but also their day to day lives. It is quite and experience. When I get a response back, it validates my own judgement of the author as well as my love of their work. I then become one of their biggest fans. Blogging with them everyday, or almost everyday, helps me know that they really do care. Keep up the good work and happy writing.

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

Paula – Thank you for your comment. Yes, it can be a bit nerve wracking to write your favorite author, but we love hearing from fans. So don’t hold back, especially if it’s good. ;-)

You are welcome. I never understood the need to write and author and trash their work. I always went with the old, “if you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say anything” motto. I wish some people would get that into their heads.

        Peace and love,
        Paula R.

I try to email authors and let them know how much I loved their book when I stumble over one that keeps me up til 2 am trying to finish it. :) There have been a couple lately, which is always a nice surprise. I think it’s important — especially in the times we live in where trashing something and being rude seems the “norm” and “thank you” is rarely heard — to remember to acknowledge the good.

  3. Karen, you’ve reminded me that one of my New Year’s resolutions was to email authors when I read a book of theirs I enjoyed. I’ve fallen down a little. Must go email. :-)
