I need to write a post for my publisher’s Blaze blog. I have no idea what to write about. I fear that most of the things I’m really interested in would bore the shit out of most romance readers. Not that I know what most romance readers are interested in (aside from the obvious) but I tend to obsess about the following in no particular order:

Whatever I’m reading at the moment (The Silver Swan by B. Black)
Steampunk
Sondheim
my nieces and nephews
kittens I have rescued
that I live in a really weird Utah tiny town and am constantly freaked out by the politics here
Dr. Who and my nerves about 11
My LJ friends and how it’s kind of like dating in the dark, because I get to know them through mutual obsession, which, in my opinion, is the best way to meet people
That NO radio signals come in clearly in this town
Criminal Minds
CM gen fanfiction, CM slash but only H/R
X-Files slash, but only M/K
Writing Is Hard
Plotting Is Fun
Having Written Is Awesome
Why did I stop going to the pool when it felt so great?
Social Media and hub technology
Neuroscience
Neuroscience (yes, I said it twice)
The intersection of neuroscience/religion/mythology
That I have made peace with my obsessiveness and have learned to enjoy it

And yet, I have the feeling that romance readers are obsessively interested in fabulous things, many I haven’t heard of. Because romance readers read all kinds of stuff, and are open to possibilities, and tend to have welcoming hearts. So maybe this is what I’m supposed to post.

You’ve been thinking again haven’t you? Lol! I will send you some pills! :-D

When is a new Jo Leigh book coming out to delight us all?

You’ve been thinking again haven’t you? Lol! I will send you some pills! :-D

When is a new Jo Leigh book coming out to delight us all? Can you tempt us a little?

    • Jo Leigh says:

Willa, pills do me no good. The thinking thing doesn’t stop. However, it means I’m never bored, so there’s that. :)

New book is called SEXY MS. TAKES coming out Jan 1, but should be on the shelves in December. It’s an Encounters. I’m currently writing a sequel to one of the stories as a regular Blaze. :)

It’s been weird and unsettling to be so long without a book out there. It couldn’t be helped, but wow, I don’t care for it.

I’m quite impressed you don’t have politics on the list.

    • Jo Leigh says:

Not only did I forget politics, but I also forgot to mention my obsession with whatever book I’m writing. Obsessive, yes, but also forgetful. :)

  4. Linda Henderson says:

    I obsess about:
    My grandkids
    Books
    Lighthouse postcards
    Books
    Good Music
    Books

Hmmm, do we see a pattern here ?

    Linda Henderson

    • Jo Leigh says:

Wow, except for me not having grandkids (hard to do when you didn’t have kids) I see we’re quite in step. Lighthouse postcards! Neat! And yeah, I kinda figured I was touching on common ground when I talked about books. Thank heavens for them!

    (C) I have a suggestion for the radio station delima… You can get radio stations on iTunes for free. They have streaming radio stations and the download to get itunes is free as well. But be sure to get it from apple.com and nowhere else. You can listen to any genre you want including stations from over seas.

Okay so I know that IS NOT what today’s blog was all about but it stuck in my head when I read that you couldn’t get a radio station in clear.

We all obsess over weird or what we consider weird things that no one else will be interested in but I assure you there are those of us out there that are just as interested in those things as you are. ;-)

    • Jo Leigh says:

Thanks, Patsy, for the tip about iTunes. I wonder if my crappy internet connection would hold up? I can’t watch anything streaming, which sucks, but I’ll give the radio a try.

As for being a loner weirdo, that’s the miracle of the interwebs. There’s finally a way to hook up with people who like what you do, even if they live in other countries. I love that!

  6. I feel so out of it I want to know what “slash” is and what neuroscience is, please?
I know, always asking the dumb questions, but hey, I wasn’t a nerd in school for no reason.
Oh, and my obsession is; When is the next Jo Leigh book coming out because I’m going into withdrawal?! Jan 1?? SUPER-AWESOME! :-D

    • Jo Leigh says:

Awe, Jillian, so nice! Thank you.

      Okay, here’s the slash wiki: http://tiny.pl/hh8c7 It’s basically fan-fiction but with a twist. :)

Neuroscience is all about brains! Bwahahaha! No, actually it is about the brain, but not in a zombie way. It’s the study of how the brain works and stuff that puts a lot of people to sleep. To me? Endlessly fascinating.

I can really appreciate the neuroscience thoughts. I was a neuro major until about my junior year. I realized that I was not going to med school and switched to English. The thoughts are still there though. I am just amazed at how neurons and synapses work, etc…not the chemistry, okay maybe the chemistry, dopamine and serotinin release and uptake…I miss it.

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

    • Jo Leigh says:

I never did go to college, but I would love to go now. I know I’d never go to med school because I suck at math and probably homework, but I’d love to audit neuro classes. I just read books that interest me, then look at Amazon to see what other books might sound appealing. Sometimes they get too technical for me, but mostly, I find at least something that I want to bore my friends with. :)

      • Paula R. says:

Then you should look for a local college where you can go in and audit a class. Some of these classes are so huge you could probably sneak in and the teachers won’t even notice you. Hey you could do some valuable research while you are at it too…lol

        Peace and love,
        Paula R.

        • Jo Leigh says:

I’m doing just that, Paula. There’s a pretty decent college relatively close to where I’m moving, so I’ll be checking out the classes! Thanks for the tip.

  8. M says:

Ah! A romance author who publicly admits to reading fanfiction! Yey! I love to hear more discussion about that topic. So many good romance fan fic stories out there to debate.

    • Jo Leigh says:

Hey, M, I’ve read some amazing writers in ff, some of them really well known published authors and some who should be. I’ve also read crap, but that’s true in every kind of writing. I know it’s controversial, but it’s been one of my great pleasures in life not only to read ff but to connect to the folks who share my tastes.

      • M says:

I agree — some ff is desperately awful, some is better than many published works. But what makes it special is that the interaction between writers and readers is absolutely lovely, and a wonderful way to connect. It’s great that more published authors are taking the time to build relationships with readers through blogs, twitter, etc. Like yourself!
