Hey everyone — as I write this, I am getting ready to leave for the NINC (Novelists, Inc) conference in St. Louis, but as you read this, I am on my way back from St. Louis to Syracuse, where hopefully I’ll be back home with hubby and dogs by a little after dinner time. Depending on the day, and if the wifi Gods smile on me, I’ll try to stop in and comment.
In the meanwhile, I thought I would leave you with a little poll, and hopefully you’ll put up with me catching up on the conversation over Sunday. Since my new release, CAUGHT IN THE ACT, begins at a Halloween party, and the Dressed to Thrill books are all about wearing costumes, I thought I would offer up a poll on what costumes you prefer, and as an extra little treat, if you fill out the costume poll and post a comment, I’ll give away a goodie I bring home from St. Louis with a full set of the Dressed to Thrill Blaze books to a randomly drawn winner!
Also, just a reminder that my Dressed to Thrill Twitter spin-off story starts on Monday — you can get details at the Tweet Tweet Love Website.
Now for the poll:

I hate Halloween. I hate dressing up. And my work has a contest every year for the most creative team. I’m in HELL I tell you. We are going to lunch next friday to see what our team is going to do. sigh….
Lynn, why do you hate dressing up? I have to admit, I used to enjoy dressing up when I was teaching, though it wasn’t required. Is it the pressure of the contest?
Sam
I didn’t know what to vote for because for me I like simple , I sometimes make it up myself, like a football player. This year I’m going to be a cat, so I bought a set that has the ears, collar, and tail, then of course draw some whiskers on me. I like to do a little something.
That sounds so cute! I always made my own costumes, too, and my son’s — my favorites we made for him were Zorro and a bat … so cute.
Sam
I voted for the sexy costume. Even though I can’t wear that kind any more if I could that would be it. After all, this is a Blaze poll.
I like a little sexy in my costume, too — it doesn’t always have to be showing skin — I think the kitty whiskers that Nicole was talking about, etc can be sexy, too… Halloween is the time to let go and have some fun.
Sam
I had to go with classic because if I dressed in a costume it would be a witch (which some people would say fits my personality) :-O or a princess (which I am so not) ;-( or one of the traditional types of costumes.
LOL Ellen… please, you would have to be the good witch!
The last time I *really* dressed up for Halloween I was a southern belle — seriously, with the huge hoop skirt dress and everything. It was great — kind of close to princess.
I still have that dress at my parents’ house somewhere… but I know it wouldn’t fit, LOL.
Sam
I tend to go for the classic witch costume. Not very creative, but easy to put together!
True … we were always doing costumes more or less at the last minute (I don’t know why — it’s one of those things we’d talk about a lot, but then always were rushing at the last minute), so easy was good.
One of my favorites was my sister and her now-husband as a flapper and a gangster… they were so cute.
Sam
I voted for the classic outfit. I don’t have the body for a sexy costume, nor am I creative enough to come up with an idea of my own.
This wasn’t MY costume, but some good friends of ours once came to the party where the husband was dressed in overalls and the wife was dressed like a brick. She was the Brick and he was the Brick LAYER. Get it? Heh heh heh. :-P
Jody, I think anyone can be sexy or wear a sexy costume.
Jillian, I LOVE that! I have to admit, some of my favorite costumes are clever ones like that… Do you guys watch Big Bang Theory? They did some science/fantasy costumes that were hysterical, and I have always loved, on Buffy, when Oz went in normal clothes, but with a sticky nametag that said “GOD.” LOL
There is a whole website for pun costumes, which are a riot. http://www.costumebizarre.com/punparty.html
Sam
I went for creative… I love putting things together and making a fun project out of it! I also love painting things on my face! :-[ (@)
Colleen, You sound like you really get into the spirit of things.
Sam
Classic for me — I hate scary, I’d scare others if I went sexy (LOL), funny I wouldn’t mind, but haven’t done it and can’t think of anything I would want to be if I were dressing up, so it’s classic. Besides, I never have dressed up an a tried and true witch. Just been astronauts and starfleet officers.
Lois
I went for the silly costume, but I wish I could pull off the sexy ones.
Jane & Lois, you guys are so funny, but I think anyone can pull off sexy… really, it’s a lot about attitude, etc… and sexy doesn’t have to be showing a lot of skin.
Sam
Hey Samantha, great poll there…to be perfectly honest, I don’t dress up for Halloween. I never have, and I have never trick or treated either. I remember wanting to as a child, but I didn’t really. I picked up all the October reads from Blaze at Walmart last week, but I am not averse to winning the full complement of Dressed to Thrill books at all, so please count me in for the drawing. I have Tawny’s, such a great name, and yours.
Travel safely, and I hope that you had a wonderful time in St. Louis.
Peace and love,
Paula R.
Thanks so much Paula!
I did have a great time in St Louis, but it’s amazing to me that none of the airports except for our little on here in Syr have free wifi, and by the time I got home last night, I was too wiped out to even pick up the computer, so I hope you guys don’t mind me catching up today!
I have met some folks who never did costumes or TorT because of location (too far out in the country, etc) or religious reasons, but I have to admit, it is one of the fun things I remember about both being a kid and having my own. It was so disappointing, that while I love our house, our street is not very busy on Halloween. I love handing things out and seeing kids’ costumes…
I haven’t dressed up in so many years… this is all making me want to have a party and do something about that!
Sam
You know what? You should have the party…I bet the kids would love it AND you have an excuse to dress up yourself.
Peace and love,
Paula R.
Hi, Sam–hope you’re having a safe trip and a fun time! I voted for funny, because that’s what I enjoy seeing most. To be honest though, I’m not much for dressing up–it’s fun with/for the kids, but otherwise, it’s such a lot of work for those of us not as creative!
And I’m definitely not fond of scary, so that rules those out. Since I now own a tutu, might do a variation on fairy princess this year in honor of my girl
Perhaps we can sparkle together…
Hey Fedora!!
It can be a lot of work. I remember my mom being pretty busy with 3 of us! LOL
So cute to think of you and your daughter dressing up together… that would be fun. You should share a picture on Fb or Twitter if you can.
I will be around off and on today… sorry I couldn’t be here yesterday. Will pick a winner at the end of Sunday, so it’s not too late to share!
Sam
I’ll be sure to share a pic if that comes to fruition
Glad you had a good trip, and happy reading, Linda!!
Linda, your name came up as the winner, so congrats! Send me your mailing address at samhunter@samanthahunter.com, and I’ll send you 3/4 Dressed to Thrill books (I’ll send the 4th as soon as we have it), and a St. Louis goodie!
Congrats, and thanks for coming around while I was out, everyone.
Sam
Thank you so much. I deeply appreciate you drawing my name as the winner of these books. I can’t wait to read them.
Congrats Linda, I hope you enjoy the books.
Peace and love,
Paula R.
I love to dress up for Halloween! One year I went as a sundried raisen. I had a crinkly garbage bag that was a gray/purple color that I stuffed with paper towels, made a crinkly little hat, and wore black tights, black oversized shoes, and white gloves. Every body at work laughed their heads off when they saw me. This was my favorite costume that I ever wore since because I got so many laughs!
Congrats Linda! (*)
