The winner of the 5-lb bag of gummi’s is Michele L. Send your address to me at karenefoley@comcast.net, and I’ll put these yummi gummi’s into the mail to you! By the way….we made it!!

I’ve just begun a three-day, 1,500 mile road trip from the northeastern tip of Massachusetts, where the thermometer now reads a brisk 26 degrees, southward to the sunny state of Florida, where I’m told the thermometer now reads…a brisk 26 degrees!
By the time you read this, I’ll have already been on the road for several hours, working my way through Boston and then west along the Massachusetts turnpike before turning south toward Connecticut and New York. If the weather and traffic conditions are favorable, we’ll reach southern Virginia by dinner.
In the van with me are my 70-year old father, and his ancient golden retriever. I haven’t spent this much time with my dad since I was seventeen years old and we traveled by train to visit relatives in Chicago. At that time, he was younger than I am now. Although we rarely agree on anything, he has always been there for me, no matter what. Even if he never lets me forget it afterwards.
So this will be an adventure for both of us.
My parents usually make this southerly migration in October, trading their New England home for their Florida home on the gulf coast. But this year, my mom had hip surgery and needed to stay in the Boston area to recuperate. So she is flying to Florida this morning on a non-stop flight, while I agreed to accompany my dad for the 3-day drive. Both he and my mom are convinced that he cannot–and should not–make the drive alone, and I’m inclined to agree. We had our first accident last night, before we even left the driveway. While backing up with the driver’s door open, the door caught on a frozen embankment of ice and snow, nearly tearing it from the hinges. We were able to wrestle the door back into place and close it, but it is now wired shut for the duration of the trip and repairs will need to wait until we reach Florida. Three long days from now.
I told myself that at least I had the warm weather to look forward to, even for a day or two, before I flew home. But my dad called yesterday to remind me to pack warm, and to bring my boots, since even Florida is feeling the effects of the deep-freeze we’ve been experiencing. It’s okay…I’m making the trip for him, not the weather. Even if I’ll never let him forget it.
Who would you most like to spend three days in a car with? Who would you least like to make that trip with? Leave a comment and I’ll randomly select one person to receive a 5-lb bag of gummy alligators (guaranteed to last for a 3-day trip). All responses are confidential!

Hmmm three days huh? I guess it would be my 20 year old daughter. I could do it with the hubby as well but as far as the three days with them together, No way. They would drive each other and me nuts. They don’t do the together thing in the car well. LOL
Patsy, I hear you! I could totally do three days in a car with my hubby or either of my daughters, but not all of them…I think we would kill each other.
3 days in the car, I would have to say my hubby. We have done a cross country move and had fun on that drive. We always talk alot and laugh even more on roadtrips. The people who I would not want to do a long car trip with are my 3 kids, lol. Well unless I had a bigger car. But my daughter gets really bad motion sickness and cant even do an hour in the car with out getting sick. We have to take a bucket everywhere with us, lol!
Hope you have a safe trip and dont have any more problems. Drive Safe!
Thanks, Alina! We had some bad snow in the Catskills, and my dad was white-knuckled…but that might have been because I was driving, LOL! I actually love road trips with my husband because he’s a captive audience, and he always makes me feel like there’s no place else he’d rather be.
I would want to make a three day trip with my husband. I would not want to make a three day trip with my mother-in-law.
I hope you have a safe trip.
Bwaahahah!! This totally cracked me up…
I wouldn’t mind any person in my family but only one because once we add more than one then the arguments begin. Hope your trip is smooth.
Thanks, Maureen! I love when I have just one of my girls with me…that’s when they really open up.
Most like to spend 3 days with? My dear friends and Critique partners, Pam and Linda. We get along great and could talk writing and discuss characters and plots for weeks.
Least like to spend 3 days in a car with? My husband. Not sure the marriage would survive it.
Jillian, yes…three days with my good friends and critique partners would be wonderful.
H, Karen! Three days? Well, my husband or my sister. I’d love the alone time with DH, but hanging out with my sister would be terrific, too–it’d be a treat to get to chat with no interruptions! Hope you and your dad enjoy the three days! Make the most of it and travel safe, and “see” you after!
BTW, depending on the company, I’m not sure 5 pounds would be nearly enough
Fedora, it’s great to see you!! I have two friends, Betsy and Mary, who I could easily spend three days cooped up with…
Dad and I had a great first day, even with the snowstorm in the PA mountains…
Yay! Glad to hear it’s going well so far! Keeping my fingers crossed for clearer weather and roads for you both!
Well, it certainly wouldn’t be my mother. A movie title comes to mind for that scenerio, “There Will Be Blood.” I could make the trip with my daughters, actually that might be kind of fun.
Ok I am married but hey, I would love to make the 3 day drive with Hugh Jackman, Keaneau Reeves, or Ethan Hawke. I could not handle making a 3 day drive with Will Ferrell. That guy just totally weirds me out!
In actuality my husband and I make really good companions on a road trip. He is always the pilot and I am the co-pilot. He is good at driving and I am good at reading a map.
I’d like to spend that three days with my sister. I adore my older sister and don’t get to see her nearly enough as we live ten states apart. At different points in my life, when she was a travelling nurse and I was a college student, I would travel where she was working– GA, FL, NY– and take a vacation to visit for a week or two. She could live anywhere and I would feel at home in her house. Isn’t that an awesome feeling? How many places are there where you really feel at home?
Hope the trip goes well, Karen!
Glad you made it safe and sound, Karen!! And enjoy, Michele! I’m a little envious
Woohoo Karen! Thank you!
Thanks Fedora! I will enjoy them very much all the while thinking of Karen and her road trip!
