Yes, I apologize up front for blogging about, of all things, the weather, but unfortunately since I’m freezing my… everything off, that’s about all my brain is capable of thinking about right now.
I live in the South for a reason. I don’t like the cold. I have my weather page set to display my weather, Lakeville, MN (one brother), Frederick, MD (another brother), and Toronto, Canada (beloved editor). It’s as cold in Atlanta as it is in freakin’ Toronto and Maryland (yeah, still not as cold as Lakeville, thank God). What’s wrong with that picture? I’ll tell you what’s wrong — it’s not supposed to be that cold down here. And now we’re set to get snow. Do you have any idea what that means in Atlanta? Simultaneous freak-out and shut-down. Grocery stores are packed. School are already closing. Oy.
And to add insult to injury, MSN home page had pictures of a Carribean beach up yesterday.
Now, I know it’s just my particular makeup that I prefer warmer weather. The fact that millions live in the frozen hinterlands is proof of this. I almost asked if you’re a coldie or a hottie but that really doesn’t sound right.
How about this — do you prefer a colder climate or a warmer climate? (Sounds so much more stilted but accurate nonetheless).

I hate the snow, and I hate cold. I love heat, summer, and even humidity. Everything in winter is harder, it seems, and so much more work and inconvenience. And I miss the color of my gardens and the world in general — hate looking out at all the white. Though there have been some very pretty evening snows lately — where everything looks like its covered in diamonds? (Hey, trying to see a bright side here, LOL).
So why do I live in Syracuse? LOL Well, lots of reasons, and I will admit, at least in winter there aren’t any mosquitoes, but that’s a small benefit, literally, LOL.

I have to say both. I grew up in the mountains in Southern California. So we would have snow at home and go down the hill and have nice dry weather. So I grew up pretty much loving both. Now living in Indiana I do miss being able to just drive 30 minutes to warmer weather, but thats ok.
I do remember how Ga would freak out when they got a little snow, lol. We lived in Albany when my husband was stationed down there for 3 years. Not even an inch of snow and people were freaking out and canceling school. I thought it was crazy, lol! Have a great day and stay warm!!
I don’t live in it…but I definitely love warmth over colder climates!!!! I really wish I lived somewhere South (right now I am in Ohio) but that won’t happen for a long time. LOL
Oh, I’m with you, Jen. Dragging in the plants and having them live underfoot in the kitchen and discovering that the little lizards who took refuge in the plants are thrilled to be warmer and are anxious to go exploring–no, thanks. On the other hand, I get to wear my one and only cashmere sweater today. It’s probably 15 years old and doesn’t get out much
I like warmth. It is so cold here, I hate it. I am in North Carolina and it is much colder than normal right now. At least no snow here yet but it’s been between 15 degrees and 36 degrees all week. I am SO COLD!!!!
I live in Southwest Missouri so I’m used to both, heat and cold. But I will tell you right now, “I’m sick of winter already.” We have had snow on the ground since Christmas Eve. Our chill factor has been below zero and frankly I’m tired of the ice, snow and cold. Although when spring gets here and I have to worry about tornadoes I’ll be wishing for fall. Fall is my favorite season anyway.
I miss the warm weather. I live in TN and I just can’t get used to this weather. It has been snowing here for about 2 days. I’m over the snow and want the temps to get back to normal.
Hi Jennifer, I am like you…I hate the cold. I wonder how I have survived living in the NE for so long? Give me temps in the 80s and up, and I am a very happy camper. When the temp drops below 75, I am the whiniest whiner in the world. I know, I could move, but the area I live in is so picturesque this time of year. It is just like a picture post card, so I suffer through the cold, and complain about it. So I guess I am a hottie…lol!
I was surprised to see the news and catch the tail end of a reporter discussing the possibility of snow in GA. I didn’t know it got that cold there. One of my Army buddies told me how schools shut down with very little snowfall. I laughed on the inside. It was the same when I visited TN. It snowed maybe 2 inches and everything shut down. I hope you were able to warm up. Talk to you soon.
Peace and love,
Paula R.
I have lived in Northern Indiana all my life and really hate the snow and cold! I always wind up catching a really bad cold/flu every year, (which I have had for over a week now, sigh…) My husband loves to see the seasons change so I am stuck here in Northern Indiana. We were the lucky ones and got over 17 inches of snow in the last 2 days. Oh lucky us! Not!
I prefer the warm weather, but not too hot. I can’t take too much heat. The only time I like to put up with the cold and snow is in December, Christmas. Otherwise it can just go away. I’m so ready for warmer weather.
LOL – looks like I’m going to be the voice of dissent!! I hate being too hot! (Weather temperature wise, that is.) I prefer colder temperatures. When the thermometer starts to hit 70 or above, I start getting grumpy. That’s part of the reason we moved to Alaska.
And it is *finally* starting to be winter here!! Most of December was in the 30’s with rain. Blech!! Now we have an inch or two of snow and temps down around 20. Yay!!
I love warm over cold any time. Not too hot though- those Hot Flashes are bad. Really they happen in any weather!
At least in warm weather you can get out and enjoy the land around you. Being in a cold state all your life tends to make you sad.
No sun to warm your
and your soul. Vitamin D is so important to us light colored skin americans!
