On this snowy January day, I’m actually writing about Halloween. Yep, it’s a new Blaze that will be out next October. It takes place in a haunted hotel during a ghost hunters conference. Only, Carrie, my heroine, doesn’t believe in ghosts. Not even a little. Sam, the owner of the hotel, used to believe, but a lot has happened in his life that makes it hard to believe in much of anything. Boy, are they in for some scary, sexy surprises.

Needless to say, I’m having a wonderful time. I’m also kinda miffed that I, personally, have never had a single solitary supernatural experience. My mother believed she’d seen ghosts of her relatives. My father, too. My sister believes she’s been reincarnated, and me? Nothing.

So what about you? Any cool ghost encounters in your life? I’d love to hear them…and I’m hoping to include at least one tale from the comments in the book!

Let’s hear it for spooky!

PS – don’t forget you can still pick up a copy of SEXY MS. TAKES, on the shelves right now!

I grew up in an old Victorian, and my older sister and I shared a bedroom. She could have had her own room, but she would have been alone in the back wing of the house, directly opposite the creepy door that led to the attic, so I think she was just as happy to bunk with me. At night, we would lay awake and listen to footsteps crossing directly overhead, in the attic. Sometimes those footsteps would come all the way down the attic stairs and then stop at the door. We’d be quaking in terror under the covers, waiting for the door to open, but it never did. My parents tried to convince us that it was a feral cat or maybe a bat, but we knew better! :-[

First I have to say that I loved Sexy Ms. Takes! It was such a good book. I cant wait to read what you come out with next.

As for the ghosts, yes I do believe and yes I have experienced. The house I grew up in the lights used to turn on and off on their own and the tv would turn on by itself in the middle of the night. We used to say it was my grandfather messing with us. But I totally believe in that stuff. I love ghost hunters, lol!

  3. My sister and I stayed in Borthwick castle in Scotland. The people above us walked around all night and their footsteps kept us awake. At breakfast the next morning, we tried to figure out who had the room above ours. That’s when the staff told us we were on the top floor and only the roof was above us. We protested that we heard people walking and they told us the castle was haunted and that they don’t even spend the night there. It was just us, a family of four, and another couple. And the ghosts. Here’s a website with the history: http://www.borthwickcastle.com/castle_history.html

Jeez, Heather. Did you sleep? I would have either checked out of the castle (what a fun sentence!) or sat up all night. I don’t know how people are so calm about this stuff. Clearly, I’m a big woos.

  4. Oh, fun!

One in particular I remember, was at the old house we used to rent. One morning I was just waking up, laying there in that hazy half away state, and I saw an older man poke his head around the door, looking at us in surprise — I got the clear sense he was just curious who was there, and I sort of did this “oh!” (facial expression) and he did the same back, as if surprised I could see him too, and then was gone. Only time I ever saw him. There wasn’t anything too spooky about it — though I was surprised, to this day it makes me smile for some reason. :)

Good luck, Jo, sounds like fun — I also finished your Encounters, and they were fantastic!

    Sam

    • Jo Leigh says:

Again, whoa! Sam, did you keep looking for him? Not spooky to YOU. Maybe that’s why I’ve never seen a ghost. They all take pity on me.

      And thanks about the Encounters!

This happen to my grandmother back in the mid thirties. She was on a road trip from NY to OK with my mother who was 6 and her sister about 7. Another couple was driving and they sat in the backseat. They slept overnight at a hotel. My grandmother woke in the middle of the night and my grandfather’s brothers ghost was standing at the end of the bed. He said, “Margaret be careful. There is trouble up ahead.” She didn’t think too much about thinking she was just imagining things because she was travel weary.
The next night they are driving. My grandmother sat in the middle with my mom and her sister on either side of her. She looks up and sees him again upahead at a bend in the road. His arms stretched and looking up to heaven. His words came rushing back and she grabbed her children. As the car went around the bend the two back doors swung open! If she hadn’t been clutching my mother I might not be telling this story.

    • Jo Leigh says:

OMG, Liz. That’s amazing, and very similar to an experience my mother had, when she was warned to stand by the pool seconds before my sister’s blow-up tube popped. I’m very glad your grandmother took heed instead of denying what she saw. That’s awesome.

I order my copy of Sexy Ms. Takes last week, can’t wait to read it.

I’ve never experienced anything with ghosts, but grandpa said when my grandma’s grandfather passed away the night of his funeral my grandpa swore he saw his ghost in their house. That was the only time my grandpa saw him.

    • Jo Leigh says:

Thanks for ordering Sexy Ms. Takes, Nicole. I hope you enjoy it.

And yeah, the grandparents thing seems to be a recurring theme. I’ve never seen mine, but my folks are sure they have. I still think there’s a reason some people see ghosts and some don’t, but I’m not sure what. Thanks for sharing!

    Hi Jo Leigh,

Ok, I don’t know how I overlooked your blog but I should have seen it right away since I have had ghostly encounters that I would like to share with you.

First story is from my husband who used to sleep out at an old farm house with his farmer friends when he was a teenager. He said late at night the front door knob would always rattle like somebody trying to get in. The first time it happened they all jumped up, ran to the door, and no one was there. It spooked them so bad they couldn’t sleep the rest of the night.

Next, when my husband and I first bought our house in 1985, about a couple months after moving in, we had our first ghostly encounter. I went to sleep and was suddenly woke up. I looked up and there was a man standing next to my bed. I closed my eyes, then opened them, and he was gone. I yelled to Al and he came racing into my room. I asked him if he was just in there. He said, No that he was out in the livingroom watching tv. I asked him again if he was sure he wasn’t just in there and he said with real concern on his face, why? I told him that I just saw a man standing next to my bed. He was so shocked and I had a hard time going to sleep that night.

Then, one time after we got our paychecks, we left them on the stereo. The next day, they were gone. We looked high and low for them, even behind the stereo, couches, chairs, etc. Then a couple days later we looked again for them and they were behind the stereo. This has happened two more times over the years when we dared to leave our checks on the stereo. We decided that we can’t leave them there or our ghost will hide them from us.

Also, Al said when I go on a trip with my mom the tv always goes out. Then, when I return home it starts playing again. I was pretty skeptical about this but he called me one time while I was on a trip and said very irritably, “Guess what just happened?” I said what. He said the tv went out again. Al loves his tv and when it goes out, he gets pretty grouchy. As soon as I came home a couple days later, the tv worked again. We don’t know what’s up with that.

We also have a pretty haunted town. One of the stores has an apartment above it and one time an electrician was called in to fix a light in the bedroom. He said when he went in there, there was a bunch of dolls at the head of the bed. He got up on a ladder to fix the light. When he came down, he said all the dolls had moved to the foot of the bed! He was so spooked, he knocked over the ladder as he ran out of the room, never bothering to come back and finish the job.

There is also a house called the Brown mansion. This is a very old house dating back to the 1800′s. Anyway, in the dark, dank basement, a foundation expert was called in to look at the cracks in the walls to determine how to fix them. He told us as he was trying to examine the walls, he noticed the light was wavering, and turned to look at the bare lightbulb which illimunated the room. Something was actually unscrewing the lightbulb from its socket. He said his hair was standing on end, shivers went down his spine, and he ran from the room screaming! Other weird things have happened there. The current owners actually called in a priest to bless the place before they went in. They said they haven’t had anything weird happen to them yet.

    • Jo Leigh says:

Wow, Michele, these are great! And spooky as all get out. I would have freaked if even one of those happened to me. Thank so much for sharing!

      • Michele L. says:

        Hi Jo Leigh,

I love sharing ghost stories. I have heard other good ones over the years from people. My brother stayed in a hotel in New Orleans a while back and had a weird thing happen. He had put his luggage on a table next to him. When he got up in the morning he noticed that it was missing. He got up and found that his luggage had been moved into the bathroom! He got rather freaked out when he saw that.
