Hello, my name is Rhonda Nelson and I am addicted to Netflix. *hangs head in shame*
I currently have no less than one hundred items in my queue and I log in and manage it daily. It’s a sickness. A compulsion. I have to know what’s arriving next, have to make sure that the discs for various series are in order. (I’ve already bungled Foyle’s War by getting the first 2 discs of Series 2 before I’d watched the 3rd and 4th discs of Series 1.) A huge lover of British comedies, I’ve been watching THE VICAR OF DIBLEY, ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS, ARE YOU BEING SERVED?, KEEPING UP APPEARANCES and WAITING FOR GOD for years. Through Netflix, I have discovered ALL THINGS GREAT AND SMALL, ONLY FOOLS AND HORSES, TO THE MANOR BORN, A FINE ROMANCE and many, many more. And the “play instantly on computer” feature? I wish I’d never found it. I watched the entire first series of THE DUCHESS OF DUKE STREET on it, as well as the entire collection of MONARCH OF THE GLEN. Do you know how many HOURS of television that is? I’m too ashamed to say, but it’s a lot. Too much. And yet I can’t help myself. There’s a whole world of television out there that I have yet to discover and thanks to Netflix, I’m doing my dead-level best to wade through it. When you factor in that I also watch LOST!, THE TUDORS, TRUE BLOOD and SURVIVOR, I’ve got more than my share of television to watch. Anything by Masterpiece Theatre instantly goes in the queue too. (Have adored the new Emma my local PBS station just aired. Next up is Northhanger Abbey. Yay!)
So what about you? Do you Netflix? What are your can’t miss programs?

Oh, you’re going to hate me, but POLDARK. An oldie, but goodie from Masterpiece Theater.
Thanks, Heather! I’ve added it to my queue. It looks wonderful.
YES! We are total Netflix addicts as well. Foyle’s War is AWESOME! We watched the whole thing. The Duchess of Duke Street as well–Wonderful! We are watching Midsomer Murders now–GREAT mystery series! I’m going to add the ones you suggested above including Poldark
Cher
Hi Rhonda! I have to say I am not a netflix fan. I have managed to stay away. Im sure if I tried it that would be the end of it, lol! I do however have to say that I love my DVR! Not only are we able to record all of our shows, like NCIS, Num3ers, Vampire Diaries plus a few others. But I am also able to record Ace of Cakes, The Cake Boss and any Cake Challenge I can find. It is a great invention! Well have a great day, and if you are snowed in like so many of us, stay warm!
I haven’t succumbed to Netflix. Yet. I have a feeling once I have an HDTV with a better picture than my current analog TV, though, I’m going to want to join Netflix in the worst way!
Oh, Cher, I *loved* The Duchess of Duke Street. I think that’s going to have to be a set that I buy. Have just gotten into Foyle’s War and have the husband hooked on it as well. Will have to add Midsomer Murders to my queue. Sounds like I’d like it. If you haven’t watched Monarch of the Glen, it’s pretty good too. Great cast. I adore Julian Fellowes.
Alina, we don’t know how we ever survived without our DVR. I’ve got all of the Vicar of Dibley saved and protected to ours.
Tori, I really do adore it. I’ve been really lucky in that it typically only takes a day to get a rental and I’ve never gotten a damaged disc. And that play instantly feature? So, so nice. I can curl up with my laptop in bed and watch the stuff that my family does’t care for. It’s nice.
Hey Rhonda, I am not a netflixer at all, but I do love British shows. When I get the chance I too watch The Vicar of Dibley…her mouth is something else…Keeping up Appearances, Are you being served, Fawltey Towers. Have you ever watched Benny Hill? I LOVED that show growing up. I don’t really watch much television though. I watch about 4 to 5 hours a week: NCIS, L&O SVE, Cold Case, Burn Notice (when I can…love me some Michael.) and Castle. In the summer it is about the same except I add Army Wives to the mix.
It is okay to have an addiction, btw. As long as you acknowledge the problem, it shouldn’t get out of hand…LOL!!!
Peace and love,
Paula R.
I live in a household where a Netflix addict resides. Reading the beginning of your blog, Rhonda, had me cracking up because my fiance is the exact same way. Daily checking of his list, daily adding of more titles to his list (while his are mainly horror movies and obscure titles with some Mystery Science Theater 3000 thrown in to the mix); he can also tell me the exact day when new titles are coming in. Even today as we drove home from the gym he said that we had to stop at the mail box because he was expecting his new Netflix. It’s a sickness really… but I seem to love him more for it. LOL
Hi Rhonda, I did Netflix for a while and did like it. But, now with our DVR we are watching more TV. I record: Chuck, Castle, The Bachelor, American Idol. The Good Wife, the forgotten, Modern Family, Cougar Town, Bones, Fringe and Cold Case. Plus, I watch a lot of sports. I like College Basketball.
I have never tried Netflix. We have Redbox at three places in our town plus a wonderful library that has loads of DVD’s that I can rent for free. Plus we have cable so I am pretty well set in my viewing pleasures. Ha!
Hey, have fun with your Netflix. I have heard lots of people say they love it!
I love Netflix but am not addicted to many TV programs on it as I watch enough TV programs!! Mostly I get movies, documentaries, concerts, the variety is fantastic. The only TV program I’ve done so far is Army Wives, I don’t get the channel it is on. The latest is coming out Tuesday & I just went in to arrange my list to accomodate those where I want them!!
It is a really wonderful service. I send back a DVD on Monday, my next one comes Wednesday goes right back as Wednesday is a crappy TV night for me & then I have another DVD for Saturday, another crappy TV night!!
Netflix is the best!!
Rhonda, No Netflix for me, but, while I normally don’t watch much TV, other than sports, my only “appointment TV” is THE GOOD WIFE, with a superior performance by Julianna Margulies, whose character is the wife of a politician involved in corruption & seeing prostitutes. Because her dreadful hubby is in jail she has returned to the workforce as a Jr. Attorney at a law firm. So far, Margulies has won the Drama SAG & Golden Globe & she definitely has deserved it.
BTW, love your military heroes.
Patricia
Paula, The Vicar of Dibley is my absolute favorite, with Only Fools And Horses a close second. Very funny stuff.
LOL, Connie, it *is* a sickness. I’ve already put my red envelope in the box and know exactly what will be arriving on Wednesday. (A new one comes today as well.
)
Tammy, I don’t know what we did prior to the DVR. The only problem I have had with it so far is that we have two receivers and the dh always wants to watch something on the living room tv and record something else to mine, which means I can’t change the channel in my bedroom. Since that one is *my* tv–and is considerably smaller–I always threaten to change the channel and he remedies this at once.
)
Michele, I haven’t tried the Red Box thing, but I have noticed that we have one at our local Wal-Mart. Our library has a great selection of DVD’s as well and I often rent the old Disney movies for my niece from there. (I have them all on VHS, but that player stopped working a long time ago, lol )
Donna, that’s mine arrive as well. I can have a new DVD every other day. Love that!
Thanks, Patricia! I love writing those guys!
