WishingI’m thrilled to announce my March release, the second part of Blazing Bedtime Stories, Vol IV, a novella titled “I Wish He Might…”

The back cover copy sums it up nicely: Nina Larson has a personal genie…seductive, sexy Alec! Her every wish is his command…and does she ever have some X-rated wishes! Each desire he fulfills propels her into another, even hotter one. But Nina holds the key to Alec’s freedom. Problem is, she’s not sure she can surrender the most fantastic sex of her life.

I’ve always been a fan of I Dream of Jeannie and Aladdin and The Arabian Nights. When asked to write a bedtime story, it took me about two seconds to exactly what I story I wanted to write. In “I Wish He Might…,” I build on some of the familiar ideas we have about genies, and create a new world for them, which can be as dangerous as it is sexy.

Nina, the heroine, is granted three wishes, of course, and it got me thinking a lot about wishing. How many times in a day do we unconsciously say “I wish. . . ” What if there was a genie over our shoulder, making those wishes come true? When we’re kids (and even adults) we love wishbones in turkeys, wishing wells, and making wishes on falling stars. Our lives are full of wishes, it seems.

If a sexy genie appeared in your life, what would you wish for? What would you worry about (after all, there is the old saw, watch what you wish for!)

Share, and I’ll pick a winner at the end of the day to win one of these lovely bars of handmade soap, aptly named “Wishing,” (though not inspired by this book, it still fits!). These soaps are made right here in Central York, and are lovely. I will also add in a few fun bath items and a copy of Blazing Bedtime Stories, Vol. IV. Let’s chat about wishing!

Okay. I’m going to make a big wish, a life-changing wish. I met the love of my life when I was 16, and he has never left my heart. We didn’t stay together. He had self-esteem issues and he never felt that he was worthy of me. I never felt that way, and he would have been accepted by my family. It’s now 35 years later, and I have never married. He married and divorced, and has remained single. I would wish that we could have a chance for happiness now, as mature adults. Would either of us live up to our memories of each other? Would we be disappointed or joyfully overwhelmed? Getting to know each other again might lead to heartbreak, but I still believe in true love and happy endings! (L)

Good Morning Sam!!! I already told you how much I loved this book, but its definetly worth repeating. I LOVE this book!! Lets see if I had a genie what would I wish for? I would love to wish for some cool stuff, but being the practical girl that I am I would have to say- my husbands back to be completly healed(he broke it when he was in the military and has tons of issues with it still), for my medical issues to be healed and the last one would be for people to understand and accept Autism so my oldest can live a normal life without people judging him. I know totally boring but like I said Im practical, lol! Ok well have a great day Sam!! (*)

  3. Maureen says:

The possibilities are endless. I would definitely wish for all my bills to be paid off and for continued good health for my family.

  4. Alina, I don’t think that’s boring at all! Like Maureen, I think health is way up there on most people’s wish lists. I have always said I would wish for everyone to be healthy without any doctor or hospital visits! LOL My drs are nice people, but I hate going. Being free from that and not having to worry really would be great. :)

One of the catches in writing about genies and wishes has been making me think “what could be the catch here?” I mean, we all know genies don’t always grant the wish *exactly* as we intend it, and there can be strange consequences that we never intended (which Nina finds out in the story — though her consequences aren’t so bad! LOL).

I find wishing and wishes so fun to think about…and being limited to three is really tough! (and no, you can’t wish for more wishes – that’s against the genie rules!)

  5. Robin K says:

Hmmmm… world peace? Oh wait, I am not a pageant queen. I would really wish for a tropical island abundant with everything me and my family would need to live out our days in warmth and happiness. The problem with this… would probably be taken too literally and I would end up on an island with seeds and tools!

  6. Lou Gagliardi says:

I would be so tempted to wish for a sexy night out with him..but the truth be told, I would wish for my mom to not be disabled any more, so she can live a healthy, wheel-chair free life. They think she’ll be in a wheelchair in six months to a year.

I would wish that my family had the money it needed to survive each month comfortably. My mom’s on disability, and my dad’s working but he’s also diabetic which makes it hard. I wouldn’t want a cent more then what we would need.

And finally, I would wish him free of his genie life. I would hope–not wish–but hope that he would want to live with me afterwards of course.

  7. Hmm…what would I *really* wish for? That’s a good question. I’m always wishing I could win a good lottery so I could work from home, but if I actually got three wishes, I think I’d wish for my own little tea shop/bar to run, with a great office to write in while my employees handle the customers. It would still have challenges, but I’d get out of the house and have plenty of fodder for stories from interactions with customers. :-)

It’s hard to pick wishes knowing that they need to be looked at from all angles first…but a good exercise in practicality.

Loved your novella…hot, hot hot! ;-)

  8. Although I Wish He Might is quite romantic, I’m not! LOL. I’d wish for health and happiness for my family. :)

  9. Colleen says:

I already won a copy of the book from you and have to say that I LOVED IT!!! It went straight to the top of my TBR pile and I Blazed right through it… could not put it down! Loved the characters and their interactions…
As for my own genie and wishes… I would be very careful! ;-)

  10. Lou, something tells me you might like this book. :) Especially the end. *G* But very sweet how everyone wishes for their loved ones. So nice.

Colleen, thanks! So what might those careful wishes be? ;)

On the selfish side, I think I would wish for a house somewhere on the beach in a warm climate, so we could get away from the winter snow/cold whenever we wanted!

  11. Hi Sam!

Well, What would I wish for, I would go for the bills being paid, I wouldn’t be greedy, just enough to live comfortably, a little nest egg.
I could wish for world peace, but since I am not a beauty contestant, I will keep the focus on me, LOL! I wish our family could be back all living in the same area again, (both myself and and brother moved away a few years back to different areas, due to jobs) I miss Sunday get togethers. And as an aspiring writer, I would wish someday to be published, even once, I think it would be a thrill. (H) (*)

  12. Jessica says:

Being the selfish type, I would wish for good health (note: not weight loss, that could lead to an illness that would cause the weight loss), smart, unselfish, civic minded people in congress, and a good paying job that I love.

  13. Paula R. says:

Hi Samantha, you don’t have to count me in the drawing. I already have your book btw. The hand soap sounds lovely. Did you make them?

Here is to hoping all your wishes come true everybody! Cheers! (D)

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

    • Paula, thanks so much! The soaps are made by a woman I met on Twitter actually, who lives here in CNY, but she has been so much fun to chat with, and she’s working on making some soaps that ARE actually inspired by my Blaze books, so I’m hoping for my Christmas 2010 book to have some soaps that match that book, etc — she does make gorgeous stuff, doesn’t she? One of the many reasons I love Twitter, the people I meet there who I would never know otherwise…

      Sam

  14. Virginia, what a romance! I think that sounds like a wish maybe you don’t need a genie to make come true?

Robin, LOL, you cracked me up with the pageant queen line. A tropical island sure would be a nice wish…but yeah, not like “Survivor” or LOST, LOL (Though I have to say, Sayid on LOST is sure a nice model for a genie, don’t you think? Maybe being on that island wouldn’t be so bad, LOL)

Jamie, thanks! It means a lot to me that you liked it. :) And I would love to come be writer in residence with you at your tea shop! :)

FV, you are SO romantic. ;) But I think those are wonderful wishes… I hope they come true, genie or not. :)

Karyn, that is a sweet wish, to be with your family… and LOL, you and Robin on the beauty contestant bit. *G* And being published is a wish you can definitely make come true. :)

Jess, wow, do you think even a genie could get Congress to work? LOL But those are some pretty great wishes… I have a char in the book who does wish for weight loss — it works out for her okay. ;)

    Fun!

  15. Cathy W says:

Today I would wish for the ability to quickly and inexpensively travel to wherever I wanted to go, whenever I wanted to do it. Today is my mom’s birthday and I would love to be able to zip the 3000+ miles to visit her and let her spend some time with her granddaughter.

  16. Aw, Cathy, Happy Birthday to your mom! Boy, that travel wish would probably be one of mine, too!

    Sam

  17. Jane says:

I wish to be financially secure and live a comfortable and healthy life.

  18. Fedora says:

I’d wish for the assurance that my kids would grow up healthy, confident, productive, contributing members of their communities, good health to enjoy them doing that, and a home library to house my books ;)

Is that too much to ask of a wish-granting genie?

Congrats on this latest Blaze, Sam!

  19. Sounds like many of us are of like mind, Jane. :)

Fedora, thanks! I don’t think that’s too much at all, but it’s only 2 — I think we can make two “responsible” wishes, and then one just for fun — like. . .hmmmm…. now my imagination is hopping with things I don’t dare write here! LOL

    Sam

  20. Nicole S says:

The one thing I’d wish for is that my mom wouldn’t have any financial worries and not have to work tons of overtime.

  21. EllenToo says:

Would have been here sooner but my internet connection was acting up….. If a genie (sexy or otherwise) I wish for better health and more energy so I could do more.

  22. Donna McClure says:

Sam, I’m looking forward to reading your Blazing Bedtime Stories contribution. I’ve loved all those stories so far, fun reading.
My three wishes would be: Continued good health, that my travel plans for later in the year work out so I actually get to travel and that my daughters have health & happiness in their lives. :-) (Y)

Always fun thinking about what you would wish for. Would love to win your prize today it sounds great. (G)

  23. Jody F. (Joder) says:

I’ll go for something small and somewhat boring…..the ability to receive any food or drink I want whenever I picture it in my head. Since it’s dinnertime and I have no idea what to make, that ability would be most useful.

  24. Cari Quinn says:

Great blog! What would I wish for…hmm, that changes by the day, but today, I think I’d say I’d wish never to need to worry again. Whatever the situation, I would always have and be enough to handle it…although I’m not sure there’s a genie out there that could handle that wish. ;-)

    Can’t wait to read I Wish He Might… :-)

  25. Nicole, that is so sweet — and you would still have two left for yourself!

Ellen, that’s a nice one — maybe a good wish would never to lose our internet connections? LOL Imagine, in a blackout, in the car, where ever we would always be online (hmmm… maybe that’s not a good thing??? LOL)

Donna, what are your travel plans? We’re making some too, that I hope work out… I guess we’ll see. :) Thanks so much for coming by.

Jody, I think that is an AWESOME wish — that’s even better than that technology that just pops it out of the wall, all made (a al the Jetsons! LOL). I like this one. :)

Cari, oh, that’s another good one — not worrying about anything would be such freedom, wouldn’t it? Like being a kid again. Although would that mean we don’t have anything to worry about, or that we just don’t care? LOL

I was telling hubby I might wish for lifetime Red Sox tickets (sorry, Brenda, another BoSox fan here, LOL), or the ability to “think” someone out of my way when they are driving too slow or erratically. ;)

    Sam

  26. Nicole S says:

I thought of one wish for myself, well actually all the fans of the Roch. Red Wings, I would wish for perfect baseball weather for every home game.

  27. Michele L. says:

    Hi Samantha!

If I could wish for anything it would be for a very good job for my hubby who has been out of work for over 4 years now. I just work parttime and we are really struggling. The economy is so bad and jobs are scarce. If he could just find a good job that offered health insurance that would be my ultimate wish! Never knew how tough it is to live without insurance and hardly any money. Our savings account is almost depleted so we are really getting scared what we are going to do next if he can’t find work.

  28. Diana says:

I’d wish for my loved ones and me to stay healthy and be safe from harm.

  29. Tammy Yenalavitch says:

Hi Sam – Don’t enter me as I already won this book from you. I would wish for my daughter to have a long, healthy happy life with a wonderful husband and lots of children, Also, I would wish that my Dad did not die at age 62 in 1998 (11 months before my daughter was born) and that he would get to see her grow up and I could talk to and hug him again.

  30. Laurie G says:

4 children- find good jobs and a loving partner to share their lives with

Health- affordable health insurance, we can only afford the high deductible policy

Companionship – my husband and I will grow old together

    Enjoy Karyn! (*)

  33. Jeri says:

I’d wish to go back 34 years in the past and turn left instead of right…

    • Jeri says:

      [oops -- didn't finish...]

to rewrite my personal story of the guy that got away – because I pushed him away instead of letting him in. ;-(

  34. Nicole S says:

    Congrats Karyn!!
