I just finished my sixth book, which will be a September release, and cannot describe the sense of satisfaction I have. The book, called HOT-BLOODED, will be the first book in a 3-book mini-series called It Takes a Hero.
This story is about a woman who works for the Department of Defense, who impulsively volunteers to do a six-month deployment to Iraq. She’s heard stories about the quality of life in the Green Zone, complete with fitness center, fast-food restaurants, and lots of soldiers to keep her safe. But when a last minute directive sends her to a remote outpost in Afghanistan, where a certain hard-bodied special ops soldier is also stationed, she realizes she’s in way over her head. Think Private Benjamin meets Call of Duty.
This story is also meaningful to me, in that a good friend of mine recently returned from a deployment to Iraq. Like me, she is a civilian with no military training or background. I thought she’d be anxious to return to the States, but she actually extended her deployment and stayed for fifteen months. It seems she met a soldier over there and they’re returning home together…
What about you? Do you enjoy stories about military heroes? What about military heroines?

I absolutely love stories about military heroes and heroines. I especially like the ones that are true to the experience. I was a soldier once, so I tend to look at the experiences of the characters and compare them to mine and those of my buddies. I don’t criticize them, though.
Kudos to your friend for going over there. I know not many people want to go over to the big ole sandbox. And to find someone there too. That is one fantasy I have had. There is nothing like a man in uniform.
Two friends of mine are deploying to the “Green Zone” as you say it very soon, and I get nervous and scared for them.
Peace and love,
Paula R.
Paula, first of all, thank you for your service! I have so much respect for our men and women in uniform. Surprisingly, my agency has had a relatively high number of civilians (many of them women) volunteer to go over to the sand box, and they have all had nothing but positive things to say about their experience. (L) I love books about Military Heroes and Heroines. There is just something about a man in uniform or a woman who is tough but tender that catches my attention.
And way to go for your friend. Love always finds you when you least expect it and usually aren’t even looking for it. (D)
(Y) Congats on the September release I can’t wait to read it.
So true, Patsy! I’m working on a book right now about a military heroine, and it’s going to be hot! (W)
I love reading books with military heroes and heroines. I enjoyed the Uniformly Hot series last year.
Oh, yes!! I have two complete sets of the Uniformly Hot series; one for me, and one to give away at a conference later this month. The Uniformly Hot series was great and I really loved that the heroes represented all the different branches of the service.
Hi Karen! I love military heros! Seeing how I’m married to a Marine, it figures, lol! I love reading about any branch, but Marines and Navy SEALs are my favorite. I love a man in uniform. So Sexy! I also have a brother in law and a nephew in the Marines.
I cant wait wait to read your new books! Have a great day!! (*)
Hi Alina! I’m partial to Navy SEALs and Marines, myself. I have a novella coming out in July (part of the Born on the Fourth of July anthology) that features a Marine sniper, and my next three books following that also feature Marine heroes…and one Marine heroine!
Hi, Karen! Congrats on number 6! And yes, I love books featuring military heroes and heroines–I love how they personalize them for us, and give us a chance to be reminded of the real people who serve. Thanks for writing!
