It’s my fifteenth book. Yes, that’s more than half a dozen and at about 825,000 words it’s no small feat. Of course, I’m not counting the three books I wrote before selling my fourth or the numerous proposals I wrote that were rejected. I’m not sure if this is a milestone, but I’m proud of it.

Just sitting down to write one book takes a lot of dedication, a drive that is fueled by creativity and most likely a deadline that is imposed by a publishing house. It is certainly a great motivator. But I will say it’s always been a pleasure to create and perpetuate romance. Writing about love has been one of the most rewarding pursuits that I have undertaken. There’s something deeply satisfying about taking characters from a hard, lonely existence and give them what they deserve after a long struggle. Take my first published book which remains one of my most favorite stories that I have written. In Jennifer’s Outlaw, Corey was a deeply wounded, reluctant hero who saves Jennifer from the town bully, one who’s always had his sights set on her. Corey comes from an abusive family where his father beat his mother and abused him and his sister. So, Corey’s always been afraid that he would follow in his father’s footsteps, but in reality he champions the causes of the weak, a bit like the tough and brave Billy Jack. Jennifer shows him that he has nothing to worry about by loving him with all her heart. Sigh. Still gets to me.

Jennifer's Outlaw

Deliciously Dangerous

And now my fifteenth book is up there with my most favorites. He is another tough and brave hero who sacrifices everything for his country and his own principles. He falls for a woman who challenges him in every way. Deliciously Dangerous will be released in April 2010 and I’m sure you could pick up a copy of Jennifer’s Outlaw often available on Amazon as a used book.

So now I’m hard at work on number sixteen, seventeen and eighteen. I am looking forward to producing more reading enjoyment for you. The really good thing about it is that I get to do what I love to do, too. Works out for both of us. Visit me at www.karenanders.com for a new April contest. My website is in the process of being updated, so check back for a chance to win. See you next time around.

  1. Congrats Karen! You and I are running side by side *G* — I will hit #16 with my Dec Blaze (including my online read), and also working on the next three now.

What a riot — love the comparison of the covers! And your new one is gorgeous!

Hard to believe how fast the time passes… Although I also know compared to many, you and I are still babes in the woods when it comes to the category count. ;)

Ah Sam, then I’m in very good company! And time does pass too quickly. Jennifer’s Outlaw was out in April 1997 and **mumble, mumble** years later I’m on number 15. Of course this count doesn’t include my online read. Does that give me 16? Hmmmm. . . .

      • Yep — when I asked our esteemed editors, I was told online reads count in our book count (for the Harlequin mag etc). They are publications that we contracted and were paid for.

        So happy sweet 16!
