Ooooh yeah!! It’s almost summertime. I love summer. It’s my favorite season. My love of it is probably leftover from childhood and that giddy sense of freedom summer always promised. Do you remember that thrill? School’s out, vacation’s on tap. Do you remember the thrill of summer vacation? Do you still summer readingget to enjoy it, or has grown up life absorbed the excitement and now its just a hotter regular day?

The upside of Summer:
*Laying out in the sun, letting the heat soak away tensionsummer skiingjpg
*Swimming, skiing and all other forms of water frolicking
*Barbeque and cooking out
Swimming-Pool*Bonfires and roasted marshmallows
*Summer reading. Books are always hotter in the summer – especially Blazes *g*

The downside of Summer:
*Bugs
*Sticky heat if we don’t have air conditioning
*That all the kids are on vacation and we grownups aren’tsummer marshmallowjpeg

Hmmm… okay, that’s all I’ve got. There really aren’t many downsides to my favorite season in my mind.

How about you? What are your favorite ups and downs of summer? Are you ready? And do you have wonderful vacation plans?

Ups– flowers and pretty yard! Green trees and grass are vast improvement to the deadzone grays and browns of winter. Downs- pressure to have plans and do things. Because the summers are short here, there’s a manic need to take trips, see games, have picnics, and BBQ non-stop. I long for quiet, lazy days on teh porch swing where my only activity is turning book pages and the occasional trip to the freezer for an ice pop (D) .

Oooh, I’m a fan of lazy summers, Joanne :-) I hate that manic push to get lots done, and usually reserve it for conference LOL. Otherwise, its cruise time. I’m with you on the gorgeous beauty of flowers and yards. Color and texture and the scents! Nothing better than jasmine at night, right?

The only downside to summer is the fact that my boys get bored (okay, mostly my middle boy) and he refuses to do camps (we are in the ‘I don’t want to sign up for anything’ phase) and then he starts picking on his brothers. Yes, it is cyclical. My Oldest is always too busy with his class and my youngest is starting that. I do love our lazy afternoons outside when they play in the water and I read magazines in the shade.

    • Tawny Weber says:

Katie, I fondly remember bored days. I don’t quite as fondly remember my mother’s solution to that *g* Whenever I’d say I was bored, she’d give me chores. Ick – summer and chores just didn’t go together in my mind :-D

It sounds like you’ll have your hands full keeping your three entertained!!

I don’t like the bugs or the super heat but I do like longer days, grilling out , summer reads and the beautiful flowers. Summer was so much more fun as a kid though. Now that I have kids, eh, not so much. LOL.

    • Tawny Weber says:

Kwana, I think you’re right!! Summer was much better when we were kids than it is for us as adults.

Your list mirrors mine. I’d add the scent of sunblock, the taste of fresh watermelon and the sound of the lawn mower (as long as I’m not the one pushing it). And the bugs and high heat can definitely go :-D

First of all, this grandma loves reading Blaze books! They never let me down. (Y)

Summer is probably my least favorite season because it is just to darn hot! Where I live there is no air conditioning and I am on the second floor, heat rises! I prefer fall when it is cooler or Spring when everything starts blooming, budding etc. Where I live it is mostly dry & hot for summer, the saving grace is when the fog comes in off the coast—yea! Our very own bay area air conditioning. I’m retired have no plans but to keep comfortable, keep reading a lot and just enjoy life. Next month I am going to Oregon to see my youngest grandson graduate from 8th grade, after that on to visit other family & friends that live in Oregon. :-) I can’t wait for the change of scenery and seeing people I love. (H)

Donna, I’ll bet Oregon is gorgeous in the summer. I haven’t been there in years, but have very fond memories of the state. Have a fabulous trip. And hopefully you’ll miss any hot weather while you’re there :-D

    Congrats to Summer Halls!!! (*)
As for Summer itself… hate the heat… blah… It gets way too hot here! The pool helps… love having our BBQs… cute pic of the squirrel! :-D

    • Tawny Weber says:

      Pools are good, Colleen :-D

My favorite part of living in Las Vegas was the plethora of pools, all heated, all blue, all perfect for cooling down.

I giggled over that squirrel. And I have to say, he’s a better skier than I am ;-)
