Some of us are born rebels-those people who intentionally set out to break the rules and live life the way we want. Others, me included, are accidental rebels. The first book in my six book series set in Shanghai, China circa 1900 is White Tigress. AFTER I sold it, someone told me “no one will ever sell a historical novel set in China. It’s just not done.” To which I say, “neener, neener, neener”.

Not only did I break this rule but so did a bright new writer, Jeannie Lin! I was asked to present Jeannie with her First Sale bouquet of roses for her (you guessed it!) TANG Dynasty China-set book, Butterfly Swords. After presenting her with her bouquet, I also gave her a cover quote!

Keep an eye for Butterfly Swords this fall. Harlequin Historicals will be releasing it in October. Jeannie sent me the cover and I just have to share it with you. Isn’t it gorgeous?

Tell me: are you a natural born or accidental rebel? What’s the last rule you broke? Don’t worry, we won’t tell anybody!

  1. Thanks for sharing the news about this book, it looks awesome. There is a huge readership awaiting for stories with Asian settings. For example, Saiunkoku Monogatari, a Japanese novel series written by Sai Yukino, set in a fictional empire similar to Imperial China succeeds in all of its multimedia releases.

Sounds wonderful and what a beautiful cover!
I am not much of a rebel, but I do branch out once in a blue moon… I am more of the quiet and shy type…

Hi Kate/Jade…I am gonna love this one. I love learning about China’s history, and a woman who can handle herself during those times are the best heroine. No wallflower there, it seems. Can’t wait. Thank you for being the rebel that you are…LOL!!!

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

  4. China has such a rich and fascinating culture. I’m pleased when stories take me to places (and times!) that I haven’t explored before. So yeah Jeannie! And Thanks Paula, even though I’m more of an accidental rebel than an on-purpose one!
