Sorry to be full of negativity today, but I’m cranky. I’m not really a fan of summer anymore.
There was a time that summer was nirvana–no school, sleeping in, relaxed schedule, beach trips and barbecues.
But, at the moment, living in the great state of South Carolina is hell.
It’s been over 100 degrees everyday for nearly two weeks (not counting the humidity, which drives the temp up to 110-115). Last weekend I got into my car to go out of town–at 8:30 am, mind you–and the temp gage read a scorching 86. The dog has taken to napping in a basket in the laundry room–the coolest and darkest place in the house. No fool, he. Even one of my geraniums, which generally love the summer heat, has turned brown and pathetic.
Maybe my skin is thinner than it used to be. Maybe those extra pounds insulate me too well. Maybe there’s something to this global warming crisis. Hmm…
You know summer sucks when you hope for a hurricane just to get some relief from the smothering heat. Clearly, the only sensible solution is lots of air-conditioning, an icy cold drink and a good book.
Read on and stay cool,
Wendy

Morning Wendy. We may not have the heat as bad as you guys do down in SC, but this summer the bugs here in Indiana are HELL! LOL! The humidity has also been bad. Reminds me of when we lived in GA. But back to the bugs. My poor daughter got between 50-60 bug bites on saturday night. And we were only out for an hour watching a firework show my neighbor does every year. She is miserable! And it is so hard to explain to a five year old that scratching makes it worse. Aside from that I miss the summer days of sleeping in. My kids dont know then meaning of sleeping in. By 7:30am they are all up and running. i figure when they are teenagers and want to sleep in till noon, Im gonna be in their rooms with a blowhorn jumping on their beds at 7:30, lol! I know Im so mean, lol! Hope you get some relief from the heat. Drink some ice cold lemonade, eat some ice cream and enjoy the AC!
Have a great day! (*)
Funny you should mention a hurricane . . . Here on the Texas Gulf Coast, we’re in the balmy mid-80s because bands of Hurricane Alex are blowing through right now. Maybe they’ll blow away the vampire mosquitoes that have been attacking lately.
Hmm… that much hot isn’t fun, I’ll grant you that. You need a vacation with me in the Adirondacks for a few days. Cool breezes off the mountains are a given! Although yesterday I shivered all through a baseball game, hoping for lightning so we could call it a rainout :-). But *normally* the cool mountain breezes are awesome
. Hang in there, Wendy!
And that is exactly why I moved to Alaska!! It is sunny and mid-60s today. Feels warm with the humidity, but the breeze off the water keeps it from getting too hot here. Aaaah. Hope you find that A/C and icy drink, quick!
You guys are so great to be supportive! As Heather has attested to, my hurricane idea isn’t crazy. But I’ve got cold beverages and a great air conditioning system to be grateful for. Thanks to the overnight thunderstorms, it’s only 84 at the moment, though with the humidity it feels 90+. Still, it’s hard to complain, since that’s actually normal.
The weather people SWEAR tomorrow will be even cooler. I’m not convinced.
Cathy, do you have a spare room for the next 2 months? I may need it. :-S
Yep, me, hate summer. Well, I’m definitely loving today, nice and cool, no humidity. . . but it took a while to get here, and will disappear by the weekend, not sure for how long this time. I sure was not complaining during the winter, no way. Okay, snow is difficult to travel in, there is no question, but still meant it was easier to deal with than some of this crap now! LOL Sure don’t sweat like mad in the winter!

I could never survive in that heat. That’s way too hot for me. It’s going to be near 90 this weekend and I’m dreading it. I’m going to enjoy this cooler air today and tomorrow before the heat returns.
Wendy, I’m with you, I am not a lover of the summer heat! It makes me cranky & miserable. My small upstairs apartment has no air conditioning, gets sun in the windows all day. It was cooler today, thank heavens only in the 80′s I think!! Over the weekend it was hovering around 100. We don’t have the humidity but hot, is hot! My ideal temperature is 70-75 max! People think I’m nuts! When I was younger I tolerated the heat better, but no more. When it gets so warm about all I am good for is staying quiet with a good book.
Good discussion. (Y)
