…for remembering to blog today.
Last month I was supposed to post on the eve of our beach trip and I completely forgot. I remembered it about fifty miles south of Montgomery and gasped so loud I woke up my dozing daughter in the passenger seat.
So, sorry about that ya’ll. I have to say that we had a wonderful time at the beach. We go down to the Orange Beach/Gulf Shores area almost every year and, even though there was a possibility that the oil might come ashore while we were there in early June, we’d decided to go anyway. We’ve had too many wonderful beach vacations to simply change plans when we knew that the worst was yet to come. (And it has been.) Though we never saw any oil where we were–out near Fort Morgan–it did come ashore in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach on our last day there. So, so sad. But there are wonderful people fully committed to the clean up and the area will definitely rally.
Right now we don’t have any other vacations planned, though I imagine a trip to the mountains–Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge–will be in order in the fall. My dad and brother camp and my sister and I “cabin.” Good times.
So what about ya’ll? Where are your go to vacation destination spots? Is there a particular area that just soothes your soul?

we’re heading to Disneyland here soon (you know we are Disney people like VLT), but that doesn’t soothe my soul. I just got home from Paris (by myself, but I met my folks over there). I would say that that ‘soothed my soul”. I let stuff go, had my, what I call, “Eat, Pray, Love” moment and really was selfish (lots of art, culture and history to see, which I love!). With all that’s been going on in my life, I totally needed it!
I have your recent books, can’t wait to read them!
Good Morning Rhonda! We havent had a real vacation in years. Always just to much going on. We are planning on going to California for Christmas this year. Thats where I grew up and where most of my family still is. While there I cant wait to take the kids to Disneyland, Sea World and the beach. My two youngest have never seen the ocean so that should be exciting. I also cant wait to take them to the mountains where I grew up. Maybe teach them to ski. I cant wait!
I love your books and always look forward to them! Have a great day! (*)
Oh, Katie that sounds *wonderful.* I’m so envious!
Alina, I tried to learn to ski several years ago and it just didn’t work out for me, lol. I loved the tubing hill instead. Go whizzing down, then getting “wenched’ back up. Very fun.:-)
Hi Rhonda, Glad to hear your vacation wasn’t ruined by the oil spill. I wonder if it is ever going to end. The devestation to the gulf & the gulf states is hard to imagine.
Over the weekend I read Born On The 4th of July, loved it! Each story was enjoyable & Hot!! (Y)
Recently I was in Oregon to visit the oldest daughter & family so I could go to my younger grandson’s 8th grade graduation. Had a good time with them & then went on to Medford where I grew up to see more family. More fun with my brother & his wife & several cousins. Oregon is such a wonderful place but I have been in northern California so long it is home.
When my soul needs refreshing I head for the coast. There is something about the ocean, the waves, the smell in the air I love it all. I always tell people that it “restoreth my soul”. I never tire of it. Lucky for me I can get to the ocean in about an hour depending on which part I’m heading for.
Great subject today. Thanks.
Hopefully, you went to the Oregon Coast while you were up here. I love it there.
The only time I’ve gone on vacation was last September. I went to Clearwater, Florida. I absolutely loved it. I had the most restful sleep there and felt so relaxed. Of course the time of year when I went it wasn’t too bad temperature wise.
