Cranking Up the Heat

Whew!! July is turning out to be one hot month, and I’m not just referring to the thermostat here in Boston, which reached a scorching 102 degrees this week! I’m talking about the Blaze anthology, BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY, which is on bookstore shelves right now. I can’t tell you how excited I am to be part of this anthology, alongside two amazing authors, Jill Shalvis and Rhonda Nelson.
I loved writing the novella, Packing Heat, which tells the story of Marine sniper, Matt Talbot. After twelve years of service, he’s ready to hang up his weapon, return home, and really get to know Megan O’Connell, the pretty schoolteacher he’s been corresponding with for the past six months. But fate has other plans for the hunky soldier. When he’s hailed as a hero for his combat actions, he finds his newfound status really gets in the way of his budding romance with Megan.
One of the things that made writing this novella so special for me, is that it’s based on a true story, and my thanks go out to the real-life hero for sharing his experiences with me. BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY is the perfect book to bring along on your next trip to the beach, or your next vacation, or to just curl up with on a sunny afternoon. But be sure to bring along plenty of cool beverages, because these stories are smokin’ hot!
Don’t miss my September book, HOT-BLOODED, which is the first book in the It Takes a Hero mini-series. If you like gorgeous men in—and out—of uniform, then I guarantee you’ll love this story.
Post a comment and use the word “hot,” and I’ll select two random winners to receive a copy of BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY. Thanks for stopping by!

Hot Dang! The Sniper and The School Teacher, now that is one HOT combination! The fact that it’s based on a true story is hot news! Another hot news item is the September release of “Hot-Blooded”, kicking off a smokin’ hot new mini-series, “It Takes a Hero”.
Is it hot in here…or is it just me?
LOL, Virginia!! Thanks for stopping by!
Karen- I finished reading you story last week. Wow it was one HOT read. I really enjoyed it. I had to reread it again after I finished it because it really touched me. And to know that it is based on a true story, well that makes it even more special. I loved how things kept getting in there way and how they came together I can see it over and over in my mind. Wow! Terrific! Thanks for this great Hot read and looking foward to you September story. i am sure I will be getting that in the mail soon! Thanks =)
Cim, I’m glad you liked Matt’s story! Thank you so much for the nice words! I hope you enjoy the Sep release! Have a great summer!
Good Morning Karen! I love the military men stories! They are always very HOT! I can’t wait to read this one and the ones you have coming out in a few months.
Have a wonderful day! (*)
Thank you, Alina! There’s just something about a guy in uniform…
It looks hot, hot, hot! Okay, I really like the cover, too.
It is hot, hot, hotter than a firecracker where I live.
I hope you can find a way to stay cool, runner10!
I’m so glad it didn’t get that hot here, I can barely stand the 90s let alone 100. I was joking with my friend that it’s cooling down tomorrow, yeah to 82 lol You know it’s hot if you’re praying for 80.
That book is on my to buy list, three fabulous authors in one book can’t beat that.
Hot?! The guy on the cover is hot, 102 degrees is Hell! :-O
You’re darn right it’s hot. It is over 100F WITHOUT the humidex! With the humidex, it’s over 110!
I am soooooo thankful for lots of things in life. One of those is air conditioning. Of course another one is books (as that’s a given on a book blog)!
I am also thankful for hot guys. Like books, you can never have too many of them, at least in my humble opinion, LOL!
Have a great day!
I’m right there with you, Laney4…air conditioning is an amazing thing. As are hot guys!
Nothing better on a hot day than an ice cold drink and a hot Blaze read from three of Harlequin’s best.
Amen!!
It has been HOT for months where I live, but I do not mind as long as I get to enjoy reading some HOT books by the pool or in my AC! (*)
We’re not just hot, we’re melting. We’re in a heatwave here, too. Congrats on the new release, Karen. Can’t wait to get my hands on this anthology. Stay cool.
For once it is not as HOT here as it usually is this time of the year but that’s because of all the rain that won’t quit falling. However that is one HOT cover on BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY!!!!!
Sizzle, I love HOT, but only in my romance reads, love the sound of your book!
Hi Karen,
I read Born On The 4th Of July on July4th! It seemed fitting.
Love all three stories, all three authors always give good reading. (Y) I’ll be looking for your latest Blaze next month.
Maybe cooler days will come your way. We have actually had some cooler weather the last few days and I am enjoying it. It will be heating up into the high 90′s over the weekend. (N) I don’t like the heat but we don’t have that yucky humidity here in the west, thank heavens. (H)
Thanks, Donna! It’s finally beginning to cool down a little here on the east coast and we’re expecting some much needed rainfall over the weekend. Hope you have a great summer!
With the temp so hot outside, it’s great to have a hot sounding book to enjoy by the pool. The hot looking cover grabs my attention, but it’s the story of a hot real life hero that really makes this story so appealing.
Thanks, Jody! The inspiration for this story is now a hot Boston firefighter, and he’s still performing heroic acts every day. Thanks for your comment!
