h_hpTo continue Rhonda’s theme from yesterday, I’ve returned from the RWA National Conference in Orlando where I also had fun at Harry Potter, but did not win any awards. However, I do have pictures.literacy.

The massive literacy signing that kicks off the conference raised over $55,000 in two hours. The authors are sitting alphabetically and since I’m an “M”, I took this picture from the middle. It shows just half the people. There’s an equal number behind me.h_g_sm

After a couple of days of workshops and meetings, we’re ready to party! Here I am at the Harlequin party with Geralyn Dawson. One of the food tables had candy apples with yummy sauces.hq_party

All too soon, I was back home and doing laundry.

When you return home after traveling, do you unpack immediately, or put it off until the next day—or week?

Hi Heather! It sounds like you guys had a blast in Orlando. I wish I could have been there. Normally when I get home from a trip I unpack right away. I always have so much laundry to do that I figure I might as well get on with it.

    Have a great day!! (*)

  2. Hi Alina!

This was a fun conference. Usually, we’re so tightly scheduled we don’t leave the hotel, but with Epcot just a 5-minute ride away, it was too tempting to ignore. I emptied the suitcases right away, but then I have stuff I don’t know what to do with. And stuff that apparently needs to be ironed even though the label says it doesn’t. (N)

    Hi Heather:
I so want to go to the signing once in my life. I should have gone to SFO because I live on the west coast. Usually, we drive somewhere (my oldest has autism and he won’t fly, yet, but I found even when I flew on a Katie-only vacation, I did this), I start making ‘lists’ on the way home, the last day in the car or on the plane. The ‘list’ includes when I am going to get milk, groceries to tide me over until I can do a proper trip to the store, phone calls to make, things that NEED to get done, etc. It kind of sucks….

    Hi Heather-
When we come back for our trips, I have to unpack ASAP!!! It just means it is one less thing to do later, and I can relax much easier!! Just something that is on my mind right when we get home. Glad to hear it was great time. Enjoy you relaxing time now, if you can :)

  5. This time, I got home early enough to do that. I have been known to collapse and ignore everything.

No relaxing for me! Time to start the next book. (H)

    I unpack right away.

  7. I always seem to come home with more stuff than when I left. This time, it was books!

I don’t unpack immediately, unless it is books. I sit around for a couple of days, then I get my butt in gear. Laundry, cleaning, etc.

It looks like you had a lot of fun at Nationals. It was a blast. I am still coming down off the high of it all.

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

Oh sweet! Harry Potter looks so intriguing – no doubt you had a blast. After a vacay I usually come straight in and crash. No lie but the suitcase can sit up to a week unpacked. I’m not sure if I’m waiting for the after-vacay fairy to come take care of that or what. ;-)

    • Harry Potter was the best ride I’ve ever been on. I went three times. :-D I’ve been working on a butterbeer recipe. I’m starting with a cream soda base and I think I’m really close!

Oh! You must share your best successes! I had fun hearing about your adventures in grilling at the Blaze lunch. I think I need a higher chef classification before I can work up to grilling my watermelon though. But I’m totally game to test out butterbeer. My kids would think that was pretty cool. (D)

Sounds like you had a blast in FL!! I was wondering what it might be like at a literacy signing, since I’ve never been to one. It looks like there were a TON of authors!!

I have a hate/hate relationship with laundry … on a good day!! So after a trip I tend to stash my bag in the closet for a while, rather than unloading it into my already Everest sized pile. It’s a good thing I have a big closet. :-D

    • Kim, people race up and down the aisles. We’re in alphabetical order, and there are SO MANY AUTHORS! One year, I wasn’t signing and it took me the entire two or three hours just to walk and say hi from the As to the Zs.
