Ahhh, Vacation Memories

So summer is winding to an end. All over, I see mention of kids back to school (we don’t head back till the first week of September) Kathleen blogged about it yesterday, as a matter of fact
And a lot of friends are taking end of summer get-em-while-you-still-can quick vacation trips. There is always such a bittersweet feeling when summer ends. Relief since the heat and the sometimes intense expectations of vacations and entertaining are coming to an end. Maybe a little regret that a vacation or some grand plans that started the season didn’t pan out. And sometimes a few cringe-worthy oopses, from blistering sunburns to drunken beach parties (I only had one of those this summer (H) )
Personally, I’m planning to celebrate the end of summer with the release of RIDING THE WAVES. I had a great time with this story, since it kicks off with some of my favorite things. Vacation, the beach and a forbidden fantasy. My heroine, Drucilla, finds herself giving in to her ultimate fantasy – a vacation fling with a young, sexy surf hunk. She figures its the best of all worlds. Fabulous sex and an incredible vacation memory. Since my vacation memories include photos of a sunburned me with a six foot mouse, I’ve got to admit I envy her a little
Of course, I come home from vacation with a suitcase of laundry, a camera card filled with photos waiting to be scrapbooked and a houseful of tired family who need a vacation from the vacation. Drucilla? She came home to find out her fling is now her new boss. It’s like the vacation thrill that just keeps giving!
How about you? Are you ready for summer to end or are you hanging on to the last weeks with clenched fists? Do you have fun vacation memories to preserve this year? What was your best summer memory?
Aaaand, I know this isn’t my regular blog day but I switched things up a little. Now the awesome Jayne Hoogenberk from eHarlequin will be hanging out with us on the 28th. So be sure to come back and say hi!!

Good Morning Tawny! My kids started school this week and I was totally ready for summer to be over! I am happy to be getting back in to our routine. We had a fairly boring summer this year. A couple of local trips to the zoo and stuff like that. But it was good. But like I said I was totally ready for them to go back! I would have to say the best memory I have of this summer was one of the trips we took to the Indianapolis Zoo to see the new cheetahs. It was a really great day. We had tons of fun, all five of us.
Can’t wait to read Riding The Waves! Have a great day! (*)
Hi Alina
Zoo trips sound fabulous! Do you take lots of pictures and scrapbook them? I’m a scrapbook fiend and have more zoo pages than most anything LOL. My kid loves those animals.
It sounds like a nice, mellow summer. And congrats on the back-to-school vacation you now get
It’s funny becuase the hubby and I always take our vacation in the fall. For one, it’s great weather pretty much everywhere, and it’s also less crowded. But it’s hard to sit here inside and work all summer long!
We have a trip to China planned for later this year. I can’t wait!
One thing we do have fun doing during the summer is the whole family gets together for the 4th of July. We always have such a blast that weekend.
Sabrina, Wow -China will be an amazing trip. My parent’s were there a few years back and had the adventure of a lifetime
I’ll bet you have so much fun. Enough, even, to make up for sitting inside working all summer LOL.
I like the idea of other-season vacations, too. We tend to do that as well, since its always more fun to visit places like Disneyland when most kids are in school and the crowds are smaller.
I went to Paris….it was so awesome. I met my parents there and we had a great time. Best. Present. Ever. (of course, I paid for my whole thing, I just crashed in their room).
Paris, Katie?
Oh wow. Just… wow. That must have been such an amazing vacation
I’ll bet you brought back a TON of fab memories!
I had my first vacation in years… went to the San Diego Zoo and Six Flags Magic Mtn with my sister, her kids, and my mother… it was great seeing California for the first time, I just wish we had not gone during a heat wave week… Summer is way too hot where I live, so I am glad to see it go.
Colleen, I’m sorry your visit coincided with a heat wave. We’ve had so few this summer, too. Its really been one of the mildest summers in years. But the SD Zoo and Magic Mountain had to be SO fun, huh? I love visiting So Cal, they have the best toys *g*
Hey Tawny, I don’t want summer to end…*cue the wailing in the background.* I love my summer vacations, the endless days of high temps and longers days of sunshine. It is when I am the happiest during the year. Plus I get to just be, granted I live alone, I am fortunate in that regard. Summer is my escape from reality, and it really depresses me when I have to come back to reality. I wish I could have a vaca like Drucilla…looking forward to picking this one up next month or rather next week, since Walmart usually put the Blazes out early.
Peace and love,
Paula R.
Paula, I’m with you! I do love summer! The warmth, the relaxing vibe, the swimming pool
I wish you a happy trip back to reality, though. I’m eeking out the last drops of freedom this week! I wish I was enjoying it like Drucilla did, too, but darn it, no beach wild times for me, either.
I hope you enjoy the story when you read it
I’ll admit, I fell a little in love with Alex. He’s such a boy toy.
My kids have been back in school for 3 weeks now. Yes, 3 weeks!! They started back the first Monday in August. So we are now in full blown school schedule — homework, projects, band, soccer, scouts, and a whole heck of a lot of other stuff that I haven’t written down on my calendar!
This was the first time I went on summer vacation by myself!! Well, I wasn’t alone but I wasn’t with my family either. Nope, instead I spend 6 glorious days in Orlando at RWA getting to meet all the lovely authors I adore (like you Tawny!). I had a fabulous time!!!!
Buffie, it was so awesome to meet you at the conference
I think that’s my absolute favorite part of conference, getting face-to-face time with all the amazing people I meet online. I’m so glad you had a fabulous time
UGH on all that work. That’s making me tired and I’m not the one having to do it all. Yikes. And the kid went back the first week of August? When did they get out? That just doesn’t seem fair (to the parent’s of course
)
Yep, they went back August 2. They are out the last part of May. But we are on what is called a “balanced schedule” so the kids have a break every 6 weeks or so. They are out a week in September, a week for Thanksgiving, 2 weeks at Christmas, a week in February, and a week in April. It is nice to have break throughout the year and go on some vacations without having to worry about missing school work, but August 2 just sucks!
Hi Tawny,
Congrats on the new release. I don’t want summer to be over, but I do love the fall weather. Nothing exciting happened this summer. One of the best summers was a few years ago when I went to Oahu for a week.
Thanks, Jane
I think there’s a lot to be said for mellow summers with not much happening. Can’t be that kind of relaxation *g* But Oahu does sound lovely!
I’m with you on loving how great fall weather is. I’m a fan of whatever season I’m in, since there’s something wonderful about them all. I always have a week or so of missing whichever season is leaving, though.
I don’t want summer to end. I’m enjoying myself too much this summer. There are only 8 more home games for the baseball team here. I’ll miss my friends at the ballpark and the cute intern I see every game. Though I do enjoy the holidays, I’m just not ready for summer to be over.
